Murder is Murder Murder is the unlawful premeditated killing of one human by another. In other words, it is plain awful and not correct. Murder should be punished the same way no matter your gender, religion, age, etc. If someone was brave enough to commit the crime, they should be brave enough to face the consequences. Just because certain people are younger than others does not justify their actions, therefore nobody should acquire special treatment. We should all be trial equally. Even though every teen goes through a massive brain lost, have problems with their parents, it is not a justification to perform as they done. Not pushing them enough is equal to telling them what they have done is correct. If they do it once, they will do …show more content…
I never imagined something like this,on account of it is not pragmatic, therefore it is difficult to believe the causes that drove kids commit crimes as awful as these. Their reasons were not good enough, yet the kids did not show any compassion whatsoever. Jennifer Jenkins younger sister Joy was pregnant when she and her husband were murdered by a teenager. When they asked the reasons for his actions he responded “see what it would feel like to shoot someone” The cause for his actions are not nearly close to okay, he did not just shoot one person, but three. Jenkins stated “ As a high school, teacher I have worked lovingly with teens all my life and I understand how hard it is to accept the reality that a 16 or 17 year old is capable of forming such requisite criminal intent” (Jenkins 1). It is such a shock when we hear about this sort of thing, but how would it be okay not to punish someone who does this. For this purpose, if we do not try them as adults they could be free in a few years and go back to the same …show more content…
She was 8 months pregnant. The most surprising murder suspect was 11 year-old Jordan Brown, the son of the victim’s fiance. He pleaded not guilty, to the charges in May. In Pennsylvania, there is no lower limit for age someone can be charged as an adult. He faces life in prison without the possibility of parole. Jordans attorneys will ask the judge to move the case to the judge to move the case to the juvenile system. The suspects father has not publicly discussed the case. Even though everyone describes Jordan as a good and energetic kid, does not change the fact that he is the most surprising suspect. Chris Brown, Jordan's father who purchased the youth-sized 20-gauge shotgun, state police believe was the murder weapon. Family and friends said that Jordan was not violent, but Brown was later found guilty. The most valid reason why Brown committed the crime was because he was jealous of their unborn child, who also died for the lack of oxygen. After finding evidence like gun sense on Browns cloths, fingerprints and others Brown were found
The article of “On Punishment and Teen Killers” starts off with the author Jenkins explaining how her sister’s husband, unborn child, and her sister were murdered by a teen. She also said, “She begged for the life of her unborn child as he shot her.”The teen who did this said that he wanted to, “See what it would feel like to shoot someone.”He is now serving 3 life sentences in the Illinois Department of Connections, and was also sentenced as an adult.Next, she explains how in America we have a problem because teens can easily get a gun.Another problem is how the television shows or movies are like inspiring teens to do bad
The Juvenile justice system has changed over the years. Before the first establishment of this system, courts and judges treated juveniles as adults and sometimes received the same punishment as adults. For many years, there were debates on if children before the age of 21 were responsible for their actions seeing as they aren’t fully capable of understanding their actions. This murder of Jamie Bulger created an uproar all over the world on children at such a young age know right from wrong and also violence. Backgrounds, and family upbringing and violence in the media had played a
Everyone, especially in matters of serious crimes, should get the Justice they deserve. In a juvenile court, the sentences will be less stringent because of someone's age. An example is given on the website https://flowpsychology.com/10-pros-and-cons-of-juveniles-being-tried-as-adults/, “In 2006 a 12-year-old girl killed her entire family for not approving of her boyfriend. She was only given 10 years.” Juvenile courts are not allowed to deliver the death penalty. In a situation where the death penalty would
Marjie Lundstrom, “Kids are Kids- Until They Commit crimes”, demonstrates an article that reveals her biased opinion on how teens that display gruesome crimes should not be punished as adults; this article is the weakest of the four articles shows in the first paragraph. Her explanation and reasoning is not logical at all: gives the reader confusion instead of sorrow or anger. For instance Lundstrom said, “Brazill was 13 and already in trouble for throwing water balloons when he returned to his Lake Worth, Florida, middle school and shot to death an English teacher, who would not let him say good-bye to 2 girls on the final day of classes.”. The quote from the article makes the reader feel no sympathy towards the kid what so ever; instead of including he shot the teacher, it should just say information about the kid and that it is not right for the kid to be given a sentence for an adult and maybe the reader will feel sympathy. There is no credibility at all because she states the sympathy the reader should feel then goes and say foul words, saying the teacher was shot to death, making the
If a ruthless fifteen-year old killed your mother, how would you want the inhumane murderer to be punished? How would you feel if you never got to see your mother alive again while her killer served only a short sentence before being released from jail? Clearly, one would want the worst violent punishment for that murderer to experience. We have to have a system where juveniles, even young juveniles, who commit extremely sophisticated violent criminalities, are not beyond the reach of the law. Truly, children are children. They are reckless and naïve when it comes to their actions, however if one commits a crime, moreover a violent crime, must be punished impartially according to what he/she deserves regardless of the age. Children who commit violent crimes should be held accountable for their actions and tried as adults.
This article points out the face the planed the whole mass murder. He woke up his nine year old brother after killing his mother to showing a display of what was going to happen next to him. This action reveals that he was aware of his actions, taking the time to murder each and every one of his family member. This example gives the people the chance to believe that once juveniles act as adults they should be treated as
Teens should be spent to adult jail for the crime they committed! In the late 1980s juveniles have been committing crimes during the period of this time, many of them were getting in trouble more often, crimes were getting more violent by this time. On June 25, 2012 The Supreme Court justices who agrued to abolish mandatory sentences to life in prison for juveniles who commit murder or any crimes reflecting the will of Americans society should be punished as an adult . Justice Alito noted that , “Even a 17 ½ -year-old who set off a bomb in a crowded mall or guns down a dozen students and teacher is ‘child’ and must be given a chance to persuade a judge to permit his release into society…” In other words I agree that teens should be sentenced to life in prison, if I did the same crime I should be punished the same way as an adult who has committed the same crime because during this age I know what I am doing wrong and right. I believe that teen should be sentenced to life in prison because the victim's family reactions, rehabilitation, they should understand the consequences of their actions, mental health issues, and heinous crimes.
Everyday a juvenile is caught for committing serious felonies and sometimes even gets away with it in front of a jury. A juvenile that commits murder should suffer the consequences of their actions. By facing these consequences the juvenile will have to face the reality of the world.
We should treat them in a way as adults and make them deeply reflect on what they have done. In serious cases such as murder, they should face the consequences on what they have done. Taking someone’s life is a serious problem and they must realize the damage they caused and I believe they must know that this is a serious issue. Besides on considering in more help on mental health, they should take on more adult responsibilities in Juvenile jail. I do not think this will be considered as too soft on how the system treats them but I do think they should feel responsible on their
A crime is a crime no matter the age of the criminal. Their actions should be punished. Juveniles should be convicted as adults for violent crimes because they’re responsible for their own decisions.
Crimes are most associated with adults. Murder is especially most associated with adults. When a teenager commits such a crime such as murder they must be tried, and they should not be treated with leniency and coddling, but with the full force of the law as an adult.
After watching the documentary, “When Kids Get Life,” I realized how unfair it is for the kids that have committed crimes. I believe that the kids that have committed murder crimes do not deserve a life sentence. The documentary clearly shows that adults are ignorant about the brain development of a child. As a teenager myself, I would agree that teenagers are more sensitive and ignorant to everyday life. Also, kids are prone to make more mistakes than adults. Being a teenager, it is difficult to understand what is wrong or right because our brain is not fully developed. After hearing why the kids committed the murder, I found it reasonable. I believe that any teenager going through what they went through would have had similar dark thoughts.
Regardless of age, a killer is a killer. A killer can be the daily customer you have at your job or the child you’re babysitting. “The Supreme Court justices would be wise as well as compassionate to strike a balance: Make juvenile offenders responsible for their actions but don't completely rob them of hope. And this should apply not only to the inmates who were 14 at the time of their crimes but to the remaining 2,497 who were 15 to 18 years old,” (Ellison 19). Kids make mistakes all the time, that doesn’t mean we should take their life away from them. With overlooking the listed factors in court when sentencing a juvenile, this will improve the number of children in prisons. Not all of these children partake in the act because of evil, but merely because of
Many young adolescents who have committed horrendous crimes have been a huge topic amongst the Supreme Court. Whether young adolescents are viewed as innocent, naive children to the public, this not changed the fact they can commit brutal crimes. In spite of the fact that adolescents have committed brutal crimes such as murder, one needs to understand that their brains are not as fully developed as an adult brain would be. Adolescents should not be trialed to a life sentence or attend adult prisons; however, they should be punished for their actions and undergo rehabilitation programs to help them be prepared to fit in with the rest of society.
The punishment of juvenile criminals, specifically those between the ages of 13 and 18, in the event that they commit crimes of murder, is not severe enough. Minors between these critical ages in the teenage life who commit crimes of murder should be prosecuted as adults in all situations and locations.
