ASSIGNMENT 2: Organizational Structure, Reporting, and Responsibilities The Salvation Army is an international organization, which spans over a hundred countries, so there is a difference between its strategic and tactical organization. Its strategic organization refers to which divisions and corps report to which territory, while its tactical organization refers to the local structure of each individual corps or social service section. As an Accounting Assistant, I am knowledgeable about the responsibilities of the local organizational structure as well as my own tasks and duties. On an international scale, the organizational structure of the Salvation Army is based upon a military model. The Salvation Army is led by a General, who usually works from the International Headquarters at London, UK. The Salvation Army is spread out over 124 countries, so each country is considered a territory, which is the responsibility of Territorial Commanders who report to the International Headquarters. Many countries are large enough that they are split into several territories for easier management. Each territory is broken up into smaller administrative regions called divisions, which are managed by Divisional Commanders who report to the Territorial Commanders. Finally, each division has several corps and community service centers, which are managed by Corps Officers (Our Structure). The Salvation Army’s organizational structure is the result of its large size. The Salvation Army

The organisational structure that the charity RSPCA has is a flat structure which between management and the worker level employees has few or no levels of management. This type of business structure displays the workers with the higher levels of authority and control on the higher levels. Then the workers with the least control and authority are on the lower levels of the flat organisational structure. The RSPCA using a flat organisational structure has management levels of a few or one. Meaning a ‘Chain of Command’ from top to bottom will be short while the ‘span of control is wide’. The span of control means where the managers are responsible for a certain number of workers each at RSPCA.
In recent years, the American Red Cross has experienced a number of problems both inside and outside the organization. All these problems can be traced back to one single management problem: the organization’s structure of control. The structure is unorganized and unable to satisfy the organization’s role in society.
The Wounded Warrior Project (WWP) began in the year 2003 after many veterans and their friends discovered the necessity to send items of comfort to service members who are wounded and coming back home from Iraq and Afghanistan. From that time, the WWP has developed into a full rehabilitative effort to help warriors as they shift back into a life of a civilian. Using an approach that is holistic, the WWP serves soldiers as well as their families through nurturing the body and mind, and promoting economic engagement as well as empowerment. Through this, service is offered to service members and veterans who sustained a mental or physical injury, sickness, or wound at the time their military service on the 11th of September 2001 or after that date.

What do you think when you hear the word Salvation Army? Red kettles, donating clothes, helping the homeless?. These are all part of the Salvation Army but there is so much more to it. Directly receiving directions from the Incident Commander as well as reporting to the Command Staff are sections that oversee, plan, and assemble the necessary resources to carry out the Incident Action Plan passed down from the Command Staff. The Operations Section is managed by the Operations Section Chief who oversees all tactical operations at the incident. Deputies can then be appointed underneath the Operations Section Chief to control different Branches of operations in order to keep the span of control in scale. Ideally one individual should only control five other individuals on scene. As resources grow, the span of control can be reduced through the implementation of Divisions and Groups. Divisions can be used if the need arises to slit operations into geographical locations. This allows for the Operations Section Chief to pass on vital information to crews in a specific location. These divisions may simply be a quadrant of a structure, as well as a large area. It enables for all Divisions to communicate and work together, even through the use of different methods. Groups can then be implemented to further break down Divisions into smaller more manageable resources. In each geographical location, the ability to control law

As John F. Kennedy said, “ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country”. This world does not survive on only looking out for ourselves and the Salvation Army has proved that. We all need help once in awhile in some way. It becomes full circle once it is realized that in order to help ourselves, we must as help those around us. A group can be defined as two or more individuals whom are involved in a common ideal and have meaningful contact with each other. The Salvation Army is one such group that exists within Australia to spread hope and compassion throughout the community, with a specific focus on freedom, with liberation from individuals suffering financially, emotionally, spirituality, physically or with with specific issues like mental difficulties, disaster aid and homelessness. Founded within Australia in 1880, the London based institution originally founded by William Booth uses a distantly Christian and quasi-military structure to wage war against inequality in Australian communities, and offer a much needed platform for support for our citizens, through
Within the department of Social Services all the roles are in a hierarchy system. At the bottom of the system is where a service user would make first contact with the department. This is where the service user would be assessed to deem whether the potential user is eligible to receive help and to which department would offer the service user the most appropriate help, for instance whether they would benefit from being referred to the mental health team or another relevant department. It is important that the first assessment is carried out thoroughly in order for the service user to get the help they need if they are vulnerable and if there are any safeguarding issues. The structure of a social services department is organised in such a way that there are specialist teams available to deal with various issues that affect service users. If someone has a mental health problem they will be able to receive specialist help from the mental health team, who will liaise with other professionals within the mental health sector such as psychiatrists and community mental health nurses, so that the service user can access all the available resources available and receive a positive outcome to their experience. The children and family’s department will be able to offer specialist help in supporting parents and children to stay together or if needs be intervention and safeguarding. These social workers will have specialist knowledge of how to interact with children and their families to
