A goal that NAMI at Keuka College has is to bring awareness to mental illness and to end the stigma surrounding mental illness. I think both our leadership styles reflects the Democratic leader approach (Zastrow, 2015, p.88). We seek to have maximum involvement and we include members in decisions affecting the group. In deciding what to do for fundraising, community services and campus wide event, members are asked what they would like to do for each of them. I know I can have a Liaz-faire approach to leadership (Zastrow, 2015, p.88). Tessa tends to run meetings by doing most of the talking and I just stand back to observe, talking when I need to. The officers as a whole are the primary task leaders. Tasks are divided among us and responsibility is shared equally. The same goes for the primary process
Cassie presents with multidimensional and complex problems. The problems are inter related and need to be addressed concurrently. This client presents with a history of anxiety and childhood sexual abuse which manifests as post traumatic stress disorder [PTSD], social phobia (social anxiety disorder) and depression. Consequentially, co-morbid symptoms create dis-regulated behaviours which may have long
Provide a tentative diagnosis for each of the following case studies. Write at least one paragraph for each, justifying your answer in terms of the DSM-V criteria for that particular disorder. Mental illness involves mental health disorders that affect people's mood, thinking, as well as behavior. Mental illness varies from depression, anxiety disorders, addictions, and schizophrenia. Robbins and Judge define "attitudes" as “evaluative statements or judgments concerning objects, people, or events.” Jessica’s attitudes towards her job switched from favorable to unfavorable after a change in policy. Henceforth, she was less productive in her job and expressed signs of low job satisfaction. After leaving her Mental Health Technician position for a job in Counseling, she was able to return to her normal, happy and productive self. The report of the grand jury in Dade County, Florida had several recommendations for dealing with the mentally ill who find themselves incarcerated. What this jury concluded was that far too much tax dollars is being spent on trying to temporarily control the issues associated with the mentally ill and too much focus is on reacting to crisis care. This panel of jurors believes that shifting the focus to long-term care would not only save costs, but also prevent the predicament we face by incarcerating the mentally ill.
