Lowering College Tuition Research

As it is, there is about $1 trillion in college debt in America. A Philadelphia Enquirer article warns that, “The average debt owed per person is $25,000 -- the highest level of student debt in the nation's history,” and that the number is increased by tens of thousands of dollars for those who go on to get higher degrees. $25,000 is a lot but the reality is that a lot of people have even more than that. For example, what if someone goes to an expensive private college and their tuition is anywhere between 30 and 70 thousand per year. In total they could be paying between 120 and 240 thousand dollars per year. The majority of the country is most likely unable to easily pay for that and could end up with extensive amounts of debt just because they went to the college that they wanted to. Student’s education shouldn’t be compromised just because the school they want to go to has a high tuition. Alarmingly, “Study after study has shown the number one barrier to attending college is the published rate of tuition.”(Lowe) The amount of student debt as a result of a school’s high tuition should decide where people should go to school. If tuition is decreased then simultaneously, student debt would be as well.

Why should college tuition even get considered to be lowered? Washington Center for Equitable Growth found that “Student debt nearly quadrupled over the past 15 years” (WCEG). That sort of intake of debt is not healthy for an economy. In an economy, the higher debt that people have than the higher risk of a mass default. A mass default in a sector the size of 1.1 trillion dollars would be a massive recession, and an overall mass default could have the consequences of crippling the banking system. Schools should lower tuition fees to allow more people to gain university education as well as create a favorable learning environment for the students getting financial assistance from the loans board or grants and bursaries. This will give them peace of mind and their learning will reflect this. At least $1 trillion in student debt raises more eyebrows than expected because it means that millions have continued to accrue debt and do not fully pay it, or have paid it and it continues to weigh them down as they seek to achieve their life goals (Campo). Solving this problem will create a better learning environment, increase the number of graduates in the job market, and provide an avenue in which more students can interact and create new friends so that they can increase their networks. Schools need to offer students these chances, and reducing tuition fees will be a step towards this achievement. Even the president recognized the need for the reduction as he urged colleges and other institutions of higher learning to adopt reductionist policies to enable more students to get better education.

With affordable college, people would have more freedom to expand talents, try new ideas, and pursue the lives they want. Without worrying about crushing debt, these people would have more freedom to live their lives to the fullest. That could lead to happier citizens, which would make our nation more prosperous as a whole. College tuition has been increasing over the years and recent American college graduates have been in great debt. People have been debating over what the cause is for years, but there are two particular differing causes we’ll be focusing on. The Editorial Board is a very diverse staff of writers from USA Today who’ve had experience in journalism covering serious newsworthy topics and events and received degrees in journalism. According to the article, “Making College More Expensive”, the Editorial Board states that as a whole, American college students and graduates owe about $1.2 trillion. The democratic presidential candidates, Hillary Clinton, Bernie Sanders, and Martin O’Malley, have plans to make college affordable and aid students with their debt by making taxpayers pay more so that the money can go into Pell grants. Barmak Nassirian thinks otherwise. Nassirian is a nationally known policy analyst at the American Association of State Colleges and Universities and a federal aid expert who serves as a voice on higher education issues. In his article, “Tell States to do Their Share”, Nassirian believes that state disinvestment is the cause of college tuition increase because public colleges are becoming privatized. The Editorial Board and Nassirian use the three major appeals to persuade the audience to their reasonings for the college affordability problem. They further their purpose by trying to prove to the audience that their point is valid.

Paying for college should not be the hardest part. Lowering the cost of tuition would lead to less student debt and allow more students to attend college, which would increase the amount of educated people in the general public. Due to the fact that a college degree is necessary for most people to achieve success in today’s society, it should be cheaper or even free. Many entry-level jobs won’t hire people without a degree, and having one gives graduates more options.

Lowering tuition for college would cause an increase to society to attend college because by college being so expensive no one wants to attend. Plenty of students wish to go college but without enough income coming in it’s hard for most. Your freshman year in high school, your so excited and think you have everything all planed out until your senior year that’s when things get hard as you see all those expensive colleges and have no money, job, or scholarship to even afford one semester.

This problem might in fact serve the public good if the tuition cost do indeed decrees. Allowing tuition costs to lower will make more people intrigued to want to go to college. If spending costs towards higher education are decrease this would then make tuition more expensive. Without college degrees people wont be able to get a majority of the jobs in the United States. For decades the price of a college education has increased dramatically. Therefore the debt on college students has also increased rapidly on an average of seven percent a year. This high debt as well as extreme interest rates combined with the lack of well/good paying jobs is leaving United States(US) students with severe debt. If the price of college was more affordable for the average person, there would be less educational debt in the United States.

The waiving of college tuition would benefit the economy and society due to the ease of getting a college education. College tuition is a stress that almost every student who goes to earn a four-year degree goes through in their life. Actually, those who even earn their associates, a certification, or even those who go to a two-year college may come across the difficulty for their tuition. College tuition should be waived for all students who go into a field that involves direct beneficiary to humans such as, doctors and teachers.

Higher education costs have been increasing at a rapid pace, faster than inflation for the economy as a whole, for the past fifty years. It started in the 1960’s when the federal government passed the Higher Education Act to increase the amount of people able to afford and attend college. Regardless of the Unites States Government efforts to increase the affordability of college, federal aid programs have not risen to expectations due to the ever-increasing college prices. To lower the price of college, the government needs to cut back on student financial spending to go only to the lowest income families and create tax incentives for families to start saving up on their own.

This addicting drug can in fact end up giving the user a death sentence. As the body grows older, the DNA atoms can be mutated by this seemingly harmless plant. This mutation of cells can eventually spread and the user will end up with a body full of cancer. These cancer sticks or cigarettes are not only harmful to your body but also hard on your wallet. The eradication of the use of tobacco would deplete the health risks associated with tobacco, and would put needed money back into the people’s wallets.
