Contrary to popular belief, the terms leadership and management are often thought of as hand in hand, but in retrospect they both have very strong different meanings and are not the same. There are some similar characteristics that can very much persuade some that they align in the same manner. They can be notably known as terms that are used interchangeably in the business world. “Management is a function that must be exercised in any business, whereas leadership is a relationship between leaders and led that can energize an organization” (Maccoby, 2000).

And, as Gibb (2004: 743) suggested ‘ during the 1990s, organizations sought to find out the ways of engaging their staff in evolving new organizational cultures and commitments, rather than “ instructing” them in what to think, feel and believe’. Hence, how to mobilize staffs’ intrinsic motivation and make leaders to be more inspirational and effective in modern business environment becomes a popular issue in the leadership and management study fields. Nevertheless, arts-based approaches to leadership have provided a new direction for leadership and management development; because’ arts have a long history of transforming our experiences (cognitive-emotional elations) of the environments which we inhabit’ (Sutherland, 2012:30). Also, some scholars believed that ‘arts-based approaches to leadership provide effective learning through engaging participants in an enjoyable and entertaining environment for

Actual studies of leadership began in the early twentieth century. The research and studies on leadership have resulted in defining what characters, traits and attitudes are considered to be significant for leaders to possess. The early studies of leadership theories focused on the person and their behaviors, currently known as leadership trait theories and behavioral theories.
