Katniss’s injuries by chewing up leaves and appling it on her wound, while Katniss shared some of her food from her bag. They worked together and developed a strong relationship due to the conflict of the game and that they shared the same adversary against the Careers. Their plan was to sabotage the Careers food source so Katniss decided to destroy the Career’s food source by baiting them into the forest set by Rue. After the Careers went after the smoke caused by the campfire, Katniss realized that the path is full of landmines. Smartly, she was able to shoot open the bag when an apple fell and activated the landmine, destroying all the food supply. Eventually, Rue was killed by the Careers as she successfully baited them into the campfire. (pg 221) Moreover, this friendship that Katniss developed with Rue had actually saved Katniss’s life from Clove later into the story. Katniss allied with Rue because she helped her made an escape from the Careers. Therefore, both of them shared a common adversary against the Careers and the mean to survive the Capitol’s game. Simmel quoted, “Agreements between the peoples made these individual relationship possible, but did not themselves initiate them” (Simmel 118). Even though, everyone is considered a threat, Katniss and Rue agreed to work together because they had no choice, but to rely on each other for survival. In addition, since Rue was killed by the Careers, Thresh (same district as Rue, district eleven) had saved
When it shows Rue she is above Katniss and Katniss looks up to her, thanking her for the idea that saved her life. Then Katniss and Rue became a team and worked together forming their own
Later, they end up forming an alliance together. Katniss and Rue just ate and they already fully trust each other because, ¨I think of how cold the nights have been. ´You can share my sleeping bag if you want. We´ll both fit easily.´ Her face lights up. I can this is more than she dared hope for.¨ (Collins 205). The idea that Katniss just meets Rue and trusts her not to try and kill her displays how she does not openly trust just anyone in the Games, considering how lonely she was before. Letting Rue in Katnissś sleeping bag is an important event because through all the violence and killing that has happened she trusts her not to kill her in her sleep. Katniss is growing to love Rue almost like her younger sister Prim, even during Rueś
as an ally (Collins 200). Katniss heard a vociferous cry that came from Rue after completing their task of demolishing the “Careers” food and supplies (Collins 206-208, 220-232). After Rue is speared through the abdomen, her and Katniss knew mortality was on its way for Rue (Collins 232-233). Rue accepted death, asking Katniss to sing for her, seeing as Rue’s favorite thing is music (Collins 212, 230-235). From this moment, Rue overcame the fear of dying by hearing
The immense amount of knowledge of plants she knows has helped her tremendously from keeping her from starving to helping her with her alliance with Katniss. The knowledge she attains spans far greater than Katniss’s knowledge. Katniss becomes desperate for help so Rue says she can fix her stings (p. 200). Rue is fully aware of what Katniss is capable of and because of her observancy she trust Katniss and fixes her up expecting something in return. Rue’s tracker jacker act made Katniss trust her. Katniss knew Rue could’ve left her there to die by the career group instead (p. 208). Rue had a purpose to her actions and in the end she wanted to survive and claim victory like the rest. All the traits have come together to help in her
I can imagine, Katniss felt very surprised, a last request was to sing, and this was probably a shocking request, especially in the circumstances and the overall atmosphere of the arena. Despite Katniss’s excuses she decided to sing on Rue’s last gasps of breathe. Katniss was so loyal to Rue, even though Katniss didn’t know Rue’s background. She could have been from one of the wealthiest families in district 12. But Katniss still treated her with the highest of respect. This may be because Rue is just like Prim in the eyes of Katniss.
Katniss and Rue work together to form a plan to sabotage the largest alliance in the Games, known as the Careers. After the plan is carried out successfully, Katniss begins looking for Rue and finds her caught in a net. She is speared by a by a boy from district one, whom Katniss immediately kills with an arrow. Katniss holds her fellow tribute and sings to her as she dies. After the loss of her friend and ally, Katniss is much more vulnerable.
Rue reminded Katniss a lot like Prim. Katniss and Rue split up looking for food and Rue died. Marvel who was from District one speared Rue and almost instantly Katniss killed him with a bow and arrow. The rules changed mid way through the games. Two people can now win the games.
In the Hunger Games there is an eternal love triangle between Gale Hawthorne, Peeta Mellark, and Katniss Everdeen. Katniss has always had a space for Gale in her heart they have been friends since they have been really little. The hunt together and feed their families with their game. In District 13 the whole community lives in poverty and is barely getting by. Katniss’ mother is a healer who uses herbs to heal and provide what she can for her family. And Gale's mother does people’s dirty laundry for money. But both of them have been forced to live without their fathers since the coal mining accident.
Katniss was already from the start a symbolic character; the girl on fire, the girl who got the eleven in training, for those closer to her, the girl with the Mockingjay pin. Friends aren’t Katniss’s thing, but when friends do come along what will happen? Katniss volunteered to save her sister from the games but Rue a twelve-year-old girl (of district 11) becomes allies with Katniss in the Games and Rue is a reminder of what she saved her sister from; death. Katniss’s first act of power in this novel was because of Rue. When Rue died she kissed her fingers doing the Mockingjay symbol.
and puts on her glasses she eats a good meal out of the roots and berries she found earlier on. she sleeps. When she wakes she goes to the stream and washes of her cuts and goes for a bath, shoots two fish and eats them. she goes to the meeting spot where she was supposed to meet Rue but Rue isn’t there, something is wrong she hears Rue’s four tune melody that means she is ok. but then she hears a scream. Katniss runs to the voice. “Rue” she screams but Rue hardly has any time to say her name before the spear enters her body
Katniss Everdeen is a female tribute from District 12 and she is the main character from my chosen novel. Katniss volunteered on behalf of her sister Primrose Everdeen's and took her place in the 74th Hunger Games after Prim's name was called during the selection of tributes from District 12(Collins 21). Originally, Katniss had no intention of going into the games, but she did not think that she is going to participate as female tribute in the games. In order to understand Katniss, we must understand her relationships with Gale, her sister Prim, her mother and Peeta. Katniss father died when she was 11 years old, following the death of her father, her mother went into a deep depression which left Katniss solely responsible for taking care of herself and her sister Prim.
They were not trained to compete in the games like them. The upper districts thought Katniss and Peeta didn’t have a chance in winning the games, so they formed their own alliance in hopes of getting a better chance at survival. “So they're fighting in a pack. I'm not really surprised. Often alliances are formed in the early stages of the Games. The strong band together to hunt down the weak then, when the tension becomes too great, begin to turn on one another. I don't have to wonder too hard who has made this alliance. It'll be the remaining Career Tributes from Districts 1, 2, and 4. Two boys and three girls. The ones who lunched together.” (Chapter
Suzanne Collins’ character, Katniss Everdeen of The Hunger Games, is a determined young woman who knows that life is not as easy and happy as the Capitol would like everyone to believe. This is partly why she is so untrusting of everyone’s motives; she does not truly believe anyone could be interested in her just for her, they always have ulterior motives in her mind. The one thing she does know how to do however is to protect. She has been protecting her family since her father died and while in the Hunger Games arena she finds herself wanting to protect Rue, a young girl who reminds her so much of her younger sister. Katniss and Rue only know one another for the short time during the Games, but in that time they build a friendship; the question however is: What kind of friendship do they have? Would they have been friends if they knew each other outside of the Games? If they both managed to survive the Games would they continue to be friends? Although these questions can only be speculated through analysis of their interactions the responses could give further insights on their characters.
The most noticeable challenges that Katniss overwhelms were the real experience and the programs of The Hunger Games itself.
she lands herself in some very challenging situations. On one occasion she comes face to face with career tributes and manages to kill two of them with some clever tactics. The servicing career tributes latter become Her toughest competition. After the incident she teams up with a girl named Rue from district 11 together they plan an attack on the Careers. Rue starts a fire to district the tributes while katniss located their supplies and destroyed them. Although the plan was successful Rue was killed while executing her part of the scheme. Katniss goes on to find the other tribute that came with her from her district and helps him out, because of their relationship the capital changes the rules and allows two survivors to return instead of one . in order to speed up the games the district invites the tributes to a feast where they find items the they need. Katniss decides to go to the feast which leaded to an altercation between her and the career tributes and eventual the
