Indicator 10: Brings multiple perspectives to the delivery of content. Teachers acknowledges diversity and differentiate instruction. The teacher demonstrated deep knowledge of content by connecting ideas from across the curriculum to everyday life. The demonstration of deep knowledge of content during instruction was also measured on how the teacher engaged the students, based on the activity the students were doing. The transformation of content knowledge was a challenge for the teacher. As time progressed, the teacher was able to transform the content. Use of differentiated instruction and technology to enhance learning outcomes. The teacher used an agenda and timer to maximize the time available for instruction. The teacher used cultural activities and technology to bring in multiple perspectives on the delivery of the content. The teacher also displayed promoting high expectations by repeatedly telling students what she expects of them. The teacher successfully addressed behaviors when they transpired. The management of classroom space and resources effectively for student learning was challenging. Many hurdles can play parts in managing classroom space; such as, arranging student desks with inadequate space. Adequate space, no safety issues, and less behavioral problems provided confirmation of how the teacher managed the space and resources for effective student learning. What if student’s inappropriate behaviors didn’t exist, would productive learning opportunities still be a measured component of the
The practitioner revealed that instruction aligned with the developmental needs of students gives each a test to see how students progressed from the beginning of the year. With this the teacher also got to know students, and began to work on what they needed help with the most, and with encouragement, pushed them more to learn. The interviewers reflection of how the practitioner uses the aspect of testing students shows that the teacher cares about students needs. The interviewer understands that getting to know students likes or interests will help to encourage them more and engage them into wanting to learn.
Instruction is no longer a linear process, as knowledge is gained through active engagement-play, direct experience, and social interaction. Students drive instruction as the questions that they pose are integrated into the learning process. Learning is encouraged to take place through interdisciplinary channels. Again, it is not a linear process. Disciplines are integrated to allow children to make connections. Assessment is an important instructional tool because it is progress-oriented. The data derived from formative and summative benchmarks is used to not only measure student progress, but also as a prescriptive measure when remediation is needed. Academic success is no longer viewed as a competition based on recall, memory, and rote means of instruction. Collaboration and cooperative learning are fundamentals for learning. They encourage not only student growth, but also develop life-long social skills.
The day I decided that I wanted to be a teacher I pictured myself choosing my favorite books and having thoughtful discussions. I imagined my students would enjoy the many activities we completed and at the end of the unit they would take a test and we would move on to the next topic. I was unaware of what the field of education would actually entail. I soon learned that teaching was nothing like what I imagined. I didn’t realize that my teachers made teaching a classroom full of student look easy because they used several techniques. They realized that they “must take into account not only what they are teaching (content), but also whom they are teaching (individual students)” (Corley, 2007). As I’ve learned more about my field I have realized that teaching involves providing the best education to students based on their ability to learn. When you understand that this is what teaching is about, you try practices that will make your instruction stronger. Differentiation is one way to make sure that all learners gain the education they deserve.
It is essential that students receive realistic and immediate feedback that enhances self-efficacy. It is imperative that I return student work in a timely fashion so they can reflect on their work because “students’ achievements are enhanced by providing them with information about their current level of performance followed by specific learning tasks aimed at mastering the material” (Jones & Jones, p. 285). I will be able to correct faulty thinking by my students when I return their work in a timely fashion which will prevent future mistakes over the same topic. It is vital to the success of my students that they experience a safe, well-organized learning environment in my classroom. Students are encouraged to design learning opportunities in which applies technology-enhanced while providing instructional strategies supporting the need for all learners. This program focuses on Program Learning Outcome 3, where the redesign activity is enhanced with technology module (Ashford University, (2014). Young learners in a classroom environment was provided with the differentiation learning tools. Technology gave educators the materials and tools in order to achieve all levels among teaching one concept.
Domain C consists of different components such as making content accessible (TPE 4), Student Engagement (TPE 5), Developmentally Appropriate Teaching Practices (TPE 6), and Teaching English Learners (TPE 7). These TPEs have the different components. First, teacher connects students’ prior knowledge, life experiences, and interests with learning goals. For this purpose, the student understands the lesson way better if teacher relates the student’s background information to the topic. Second, teacher promotes self-directed, reflective learning for all students, by engaging students in problem-solving, critical thinking and other activities that make subject matter meaningful. For instance, the teacher who makes hands-on activities toward the students is
different layout for the class. After realizing the differences, I asked Mrs. Dillard, "Why is each class layout different?" She replied, " I believe every class is different, and that I, as the teacher, need to conform to their learning style rather than them conform to my teaching style." Once she answered my question, I felt more enlightened about teaching. Always being a student, I have viewed learning from one perspective only, but now I am beginning to see different learning styles and formats from being an education major. In the six classes Mrs. Dillard teaches, she used two tools to teach her students: interactive notebook and PowerPoint.
Others students that might be included in my classroom apart from the one mention in the chapter are students with ADD or ADHD. The supports that I will provide for these students to ensure academic success will be to seat them away from distraction and noise, to be able to focus more on the lesson being taught. One kind of behavioral intervention that can be used for students is the time interval, allowing the students to stop when they hear the timer ring and for the students to keep a checklist and mark yes or no if they are engaged in the learning. In the classroom it is important to collect information regarding students learning styles, readiness level, and what hinders the student from learning. Creating instructions take time due to students having different learning styles. Collecting data will help support the differentiated instructions that teachers will use in the classroom to ensure all students have the capabilities to gain the knowledge and skills needed to be successful in the classroom. Before gathering data on students, teachers must be aware of their strengths and weaknesses to be able to help students beyond their understanding. There are eight multiple intelligences teachers can use to incorporate differentiated instructions to increase student learning. Gaining this kind of data will give teachers the information needed to guide students throughout the classroom.

One aspect of INA is the ingenious teaching approaches. Effective teaching requires a multifaceted approach, this includes utilizing Jensen’s seven critical factors. These factors include engagement, repetition. input quantity, coherence, timing, error correction and emotional states. Each factor is distinct in its function and implantation. There are numerous benefits to incorporating these seven critical factors into lessons such as engagement will induce focus and gain the student’s attention, repetition will enable the students to preview, review, and revise the information, input quantity limits the amount of information resulting in a deeper understanding, coherence builds off the student’s personal experiences and prior knowledge, timing provides for activity shifts and best suitable scheduling, error correction reinforces the lesson through quality feedback, and emotional states evokes fundamental emotions to initiate self-reliance and
Students need and desire structure to make them feel safe. They way in which a classroom is managed is directly linked to the learning that occurs in the room. Without a clear set of rules, procedures, and expectation, much of the instructional time could be spent on management issues rather than quality lessons. I will establish a procedure for all things in my classroom. I will begin reviewing and practicing these procedures beginning on the first day of school.
Differentiation is an educational topic that should be openly discussed between colleagues on a regular basis. Educators focus on doing what is best for their students, yet we must admit to sometimes falling short of meeting the needs of every single student on a daily basis. This happens for various reasons: being short on time, being overloaded with students in the classroom, or just becoming comfortable in the activities we have previously created. Sharing new techniques for differentiation is one major way we can improve over all education in our schools and create an atmosphere that fosters learning among all students regardless of readiness level or learning style preferences. Effective differentiated instruction reflects where the students currently are in their educational stage and not where a teacher wishes them to be. This step is important; placing students either too high or too low in the instruction can be adverse to the teacher’s goal of helping all students. Developing lesson strategies for students that are too demanding may have a negative effect on performance and reinforce negative emotions concerning learning. Likewise, developing lesson strategies that do not challenge students to perform at their best can also have a negative effect. Some students that are not engaged by a teacher's instruction are left adrift waiting for new or more stimulating material. Engaging students in the learning strategy is the key ingredient in producing active learners.
