To actively promote race equality and good race relations across all areas of school life and to eliminate unlawful discrimination. To ensure that the school pursues high academic standards through a broad and balanced creative curriculum. To provide a happy, caring, safe and welcoming environment in which children are encouraged and helped to succeed.” The ethos, mission, aims and values of a school is normally based on the beliefs and feelings of a school and can be felt in the school’s atmosphere, They should be recognizable when entering the school environment as it should be part of the school’s everyday activities and part of the daily practice of both staff and pupils. School policies are in place to ensure that children are at the centre of everything, reward systems to celebrate achievement in both academic and non-academic areas. There is a school council where pupils’ voices are heard and they can make positive changes to the school, this gives them a sense of pride in the school and enhances the positive atmosphere. Assemblies are led in a way and the school works together .The school has strong links with the local vicar and church family. Through the church, the

The behaviour policy outlines the school's aims of how to create “a positive community atmosphere in which children can learn effectively by promoting good standards of behaviour”. The school aims to recognise and respond to good behaviour in children, promoting a positive classroom environment where the focus is on praise of children's good behaviour and work. It outlines rewards and sanctions, and sets out a code of conduct that all children, staff, parents and governors should be aware of.
* Provides a strategic view of the school by establishing a vision and setting the purpose and aims of the school within an agreed policy framework. It appoints and performance manages the head teacher, agreeing the school improvement strategy which includes setting statutory targets with supporting budgets and staffing structures.
It is not enough to have policies in place which make statements about anti-discriminatory practice or just to pay lip service to it. Schools must demonstrate anti-discriminatory practice.
The Ethos of the school should be recognisable when entering the school environment as it is part of the nature and daily practice of the staff and pupils there. It is usually clearly set out for the whole school to be aware of and is reinforced through daily activities.
There are many ways that a school can communicate its ethos, mission, aims and values, to pupils, staff and parents. A school prospectus or handbook should communicate clear understandable information, taking into consideration the surrounding ethnic community and maybe translating it into different languages.
A school ethos is hard to sum up; it becomes stronger once you enter the school building. There is a feeling that every child matters. The children and young people feel more confident when they approach a member of staff and school surroundings reflects the diversity within the school.
We need to be a school district that prepares all students to be productive members of society. We need to expose our students to the real world and help them see that the world is bigger than our very small community. We need to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed and reach their goals. We need be a school with a pluralistic culture. Our students need to be culturally competent and have a good understanding of diversity. We need to promote the acceptance and celebration of people from all walks of life. We need to develop a supportive atmosphere where students feel they can express their beliefs freely without prejudice or judgment.
b) The school ensures that pupils and staff commit to the schools ethos by regular training, inductions, contracts between the staff and school and children and the school.
They are expected to provide the same opportunities to all children and to improve academic developments across the board. Schools are required to have their own race equality policy which is linked into an action plan and must promote equal opportunities and improved relationships between racial groups
To use all avenues possible to improve the teaching-learning environment, maintain safe schools, raise standards, and improve achievement levels.
As an educational leader, I must have a vision and mission statement for the school that is known by the staff, students, and parents. The vision will address the needs of the students academically, emotionally, and socially. According to DuFour (1998), “ Those who seek to transform their school into a professional learning community as characterized by an environment fostering mutual cooperation, emotional support, personal growth, and a synergy of efforts.” The leader must implement a plan that will cultivate the success of all students. The mission will speak to the direction of the school community stating what the desire goals are. The building leader will lead by example. High expectations will be communicated and encourage by staff and students. The educational leader of a school must develop a culture of team work to create a climate that is student friendly. The vision mission and goals of the leader should be transparent. The establishment of common goals is the first step. Without common goals, sustainable progress will be impossible and thus everyone will have lower expectations. The students, parents, and staff should be commented to the goals of every child reaching their full academic potential. The school environment should speak to goal setting and high expectations for all students and staff.
