In the speech of martin luther king’s “I have a dream” he starts to talk about what is wrong with this nation and how we should start to change the way we think about black people, and that they are just the same and as intelligent as white people. Dr.Martin luther king was very passionate and attached to this speech he also used a lot of figurative language to get his point across and not have any confusion. This allowed him to get straight to the point, when he went up to stand in front of all those people you could tell he was ready to say what needed to be said and the people wanted to hear. In the beginning of the speech he points out that 100 years ago our fathers fought for our freedom and the right to be seen as a whole person not just ⅙ of a person but as a whole. The vocab he uses is very high he does this because white people thought that black people were not intelligent and could not use that kind of vocab. You can see him use this in his first line “ Five score years ago, A great American, in whose …show more content…
He starts to talk about his children and how he doesn't want them to have the same experience as he did. He just wants them to have a life of freedom and not be discriminated against, you can see this when he says “ I have a dream that my four children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their skin color but by the content of their character” you can also see this in the same paragraph when he says “little black boys and black girls will be able to join hands with little white boys and white girls as sisters and brothers” all he wants is for everyone to get along. Martin Luther king put a lot of time into this speech and you can see that he meant what he said, you can also see that a lot of figurative language was used in his speech and that the sentence structure where short and to the point for a
Martin Luther King Jr. gave arguably one of his most influential speeches on 3 April, 1968 in Memphis, Tennessee. This would be the last speech he would give to the American people before he was killed shortly after. The speech addresses the unfair treatment of African Americans and how they should respond to it. He talks about how he wants people to peacefully join together in full force in order to fight for equal rights. King talks about all of the successes the Civil Rights Movement has had so far and what his hopes are for future success. He explains all of the events he is thankful he had the opportunity to experience. It acts almost as a goodbye to all of his supporters and a reassurance that everything will be okay no matter what happens in the future. Throughout the speech he appears very confident that the Civil Rights Movement will have the success that he has intended. The speech was, in many ways, unique due to the fact that it seemed as though Martin Luther King Jr. knew that it would be on of his last speeches he would have the ability of making. It Throughout the speech, King uses ethos, pathos, and logos in order to effectively get his point out to his listeners.
In conclusion, Martin Luther King Jr. effectively and clearly communicated his message clearly through to the clear way of stating his introduction, key points and conclusion. He uses his personal experience, rhetoric devices, and uses his strong tone to convey his message and in doing so he was successful in communicating his point and topic clearly and sufficiently to his
This speech was delivered in Washington by MLK. MLK wants the American people to treat blacks equally and not judge them by their skin color but by their character. He thinks this will bring America together. His philosophy makes more sense because his goal is to gain equal rights in a peaceful way which is why he says “I Have a Dream”, it also shows that he’s hoping that this will happen as a result of peaceful protests.
When you hear the name Martin Luther King Jr., the first thing that comes to mind is probably racism against African Americans. He is famous for his wisdom and persuasive speeches against segregation of African Americans. This statement holds strongly true because today diverse races are integrated all over the united states. For what ever reason, Martin has been an inspiration to many African Americans. He accomplished his success mostly through speeches, but also through his written essays. Although, his speeches were intense and filled with much persuasion, Martin had a way with words when he wrote too. This is displayed in professional fashion in the "Letter From Birmingham Jail." Martin displayed a circus of statements in response to
Along with being an advocate for civil rights, Martin Luther King Jr. was a skilled writer and public speaker. He wrote many books and delivered a multitude of speeches all over the country. In an excerpt from his book, Why We Can’t Wait, King uses a plethora of rhetorical strategies to move his audience, the people of America. He specifically is reaching out to the African American population in the 1960s to encourage them to take the necessary steps to gain freedom.
To begin, Martin Luther King Jr. was an African American rights activist and an impressive preacher. One day during a peaceful protest, he was arrested and sent to the Birmingham Jail. In jail, he wrote a detailed, metaphoric letter to the clergy men, speaking about the recent racism problems and how to fix it. The public has labeled Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in many different ways over the years: a minister, a dreamer, and a leader. In Birmingham, April 1963, he could have been said to be a law-breaking extremist by many of the community’s members. Dr. King previously, before being thrown in jail, was the leader of the non-violent protests happening in the Birmingham area. A group of clergymen scorned his actions and those of his followers in a local newspaper. His rebuttal was not hateful, but rather insightful to the reasonings behind his actions and why they were necessary. Dr. King uses religious allusions and references which helps deliver this message and makes it so it is easily comprehensible. He has to put on a large aura of knowledge and
Martin Luther Kings has been, still is, and always will be one of my favorite speakers. He was an outspoken activist of civil rights, not just for hisself and his family but for society as a whole. His words were powerful and had the ability to not just make his audience listen but to actually take action along side of him. He had the ability to make you feel like you were right there with him when you were no where around or even thought about at that time. His language was full of imagery and his words sprung to life when he spoke them. " now is the time to lift our nation from the quicksands of racial injustice to the solid rock of brotherhood." is just an example of the imagery he used when delivering his speeches. To me, this shows his
Martin Luther King Jr. gave his speech at Washington D.C in 1963 calling for a social reform after desegregation started Legally, the federal government have ruled that there should be no segregation and one race is not above the other, leading to his pathos and logos stance in his speech. Martin begins his speech with referring to Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation and that the african americans are still not free in this world. When he refers to the african americans not being free he means that in the society they are not equal to everyone. In his pathos statement he refers to the repetition of “I have a dream..” he relates the actions that are taken back to his children, “I have a dream that little children will one day live in a nation
I have to say Martin Luther King is an outstanding leader and orator. Before this letter I just read his speech I have a dream. As an outlier towards American society, I could not receive some essential information for the conflict of America racism. This letter discussed more specific information about how the black received the inequality treatment. In this letter, Martin said he could not stand the racism in Birmingham. When the mainstream only had racial segregation and worse racial policies, Martin thought he had to keep the active behaviors to deal with it. He disagreed with someone who supported negotiation way with government because he knew only negotiation could not get any advantages for changing of racism. In addition, he blamed

Martin Luther King Jr.’s speech is a speech that will continue to be talked about until the end of time. Recently, there have been way too many situations that makes his speech even more relevant than it should have to be. For instance, the March to Confront White Supremacy is a march that tried conveying the same purpose as his speech did. This march is also similar to a march that King himself led over 50 years ago.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was one of the most influential leaders in the Civil Rights Movement and to this day he still has a huge impact on Americans of every race. The Civil Rights Movement was an era that not only affected African Americans or just the South, but it affected people all around the world. Martin Luther King's speech was about how when the union won the civil war that all kinds of people were promised the right of being free but along the way they weren't given the freedom that was said and that we let down Abraham Lincoln and all the people that fought in the civil war. He said that the black marched here to get the freedom that they were promised and he described it as that they were there to cash a check that they cashed along time ago that said insufficient funds. they were there to cash that check again but this time they were there to get the rights that they were promised and they were not leaving until they get those right
