Malcolm X lived in a world where society had a set of guidelines: one race always reigned superior to the other--white people held power over black people. As the years passed by, his innocence began to fade away, and his eyes began to focus on the horrendously unfair world around him; he grew bitter, infuriated, and cold. His misdirected anger lead him to take wrong turns down his life’s path, making mistakes out of rage until he was able to find the proper outlets in his religion and his fight for equality. Malcolm X altered the world he lived in by constantly speaking of the discrimination and unequal freedom that he and the black community received from whites. He continues to influence activist groups today, as his teachings influence
Malcolm X, an African American leader and prominent figure in the Nation of Islam, was a significant individual in the African American fight for justice and equality. In contrast to the mainstream Civil Rights Movement with its nonviolent pursuit of integration, Malcolm X voiced concepts of race pride and Black Nationalism during the 1950s and '60s. Although many argue that Malcolm X did not actually “do” anything for the black community, his nontraditional programs brought a new perspective to the Civil Rights Movement, and this perspective is of relevance today in the black community.
Malcolm X was a similar person to Martian Luther King. He wanted blacks to have more rights/ freedom. Malcolm X wanted blacks to be free and to have no restrictions. In the end he changed a few things.
He studied hard to get high grades and he was even elected as the class president. He was doing his best, until his teacher went up to him and told him that his dream to be a lawyer, is not possible all because he is black. Instead, he insisted him to become a carpenter. From then, something started to changed within him. Malcolm sees the limit to the white acceptance, and the inevitable truth of what life awaits for the colored. He starts believing that in the white society he was living in, there is no success nor future. Spike Lee never really focused on Malcolm's childhood in the film, except for this particular part. He chose this moment to highlight, because this scene single handedly explains why he hated whites, why he became a hustler, and why he became a civil rights activists. It was the hatred against the whites. From then, he stopped accepting the whites. This was the moment when Malcolm's view on integration between whites and blacks became possible, to impossible. The historical figure of Malcolm X’s philosophy started here, with the hatred of his enemy. Malcolm X in his speech, preached that the black man should have their own power, by separating themselves completely from the white society, similar to what his father was preaching. His childhood tragedy gave him the reason to fight for, and the belief for uniting the black race for separating them from the cruelty. Malcolm X we all know of, would have never existed without
In the times of the black community and its oppression from the whites, many predominate figures, groups, and movements came to play. Many of these legacies live today with us as a figure of what possibility and critical thinking can do for a generation. One of these great figures was civil rights activist; Malcolm X. Malcolm X or Malcolm Little was a huge key factor in the civil right movements in the late 1950s-1960s. He spoke against the injustice of the government, because of this many viewed his actions as too brash or extreme.
Malcolm X’s teachings of urgency for such radical change was one that was not in favor with many Americans, specifically White Americans. Many have associated Malcolm X’s ideologies with hatred, radicalism with a very negative connotation, and violent. This perception
Malcolm wanted everyone to be safe and protect themselves but not using no violence and killing each other. According to “Racism and Religion: The Contrasting Views of Benjamin Mays, Malcolm X ,and Martin Luther King Jr.”, it states “ The truth of the blacks people role in history has been hidden by a white conspiracy handed down generation, continually brainwashing blacks.” This means that no one really gave importance to the problems blacks were having. It wasn't fair because everyone did not worry if blacks were treated badly and were put to jail. Black people needed to be free and be able to do whatever they want. White men made sure they had few rights and not be equal as the other human
Malcolm X believed that a violent approach to activism would help the African-American community because he believed that the civil rights movement was a fictitious solution, and that African-Americans should not attempt to become integrated with the whites. Malcolm X argued that integration is unacceptable for the black community. His angry rhetoric contributed a foundation for Black Power and black nationalism. Malcolm X teaches one of his followers to consider any means necessary. This meant he promotes violence to create a process with establishing the black identity and independence. He provides a passionate speech, demanding the African Americans to question themselves where they came from and what are they doing. He ordered the African
Through his journey, we can see a shift in the way blacks were able to live among whites. He encouraged blacks to think for themselves, and whites to stop controlling them. We see that he had an abundance of trials that ended in errors in his movement. First, he was heading down a bad path but was saved by the Nation of Islam. As he began speaking, he fascinated people all around the world with his intelligence and ability to speak the truth. Soon after, he found that his ideas were flawed and found another religion that was much more peaceful. In the end, it was Malcolm’s capability to seek out truth that led him to be one of the most moving civil rights activist in American
Malcolm X was a very controversial man who has inspired many people. He challenged the Civil Rights Movement by preaching about violence and pride amongst African American communities. How Malcolm X advanced and stood up for African Americans through his preachings and approach to use violence for self-defense is a question that is yet to be answered. Although Malcolm X promoted violence, he only meant to lead the Black community into a better life. This is significant due to the fact that Malcolm X’s demand for violence and self-defense challenged the Civil Rights Movement (which was occurring simultaneously) which clearly was against violence. Malcolm X took a stand against the non-violent Civil Rights
Malcolm X stood for the civil rights of all people despite their personal affiliations but he especially focused on African-American’s and their right to equality. In Civil Rights Movement Encyclopedia Britannica stated, “Malcolm X was an early leader of this “black power” movement” (encyclopedia Britannica). Malcolm was an admirable person because he always knew he wanted to fight for something bigger than himself. He did so by fighting for the rights of millions of people because he knew it was the noble thing to do. According to Encyclopedia Britannica in Malcolm X, “In contrast to King’s strategy of nonviolence, civil disobedience, and redemptive suffering, Malcolm urged his followers to defend themselves ‘by any means necessary’” (Encyclopedia
There are many people in history that are considered leaders. When we think of leaders what qualities come to mind? Who is the first person that comes to mind when you hear the word “leader”? For myself, Malcolm X, is the first person that I think of as a leader. Many people do not really think of him as a leader, but Malcolm X, was a great leader that helped lead the Nation of Islam, people during the civil rights movement, and also achieved many things.
Malcolm X was an important black leader and activist to the African American community and Nation of Islam in the 50’s and 60’s. He had a troubled childhood growing up in a time of awful racism. His childhood experiences affected him and his decisions for many years in positive and negative ways. Malcolm X was a strong willed man with huge ideas for the civil rights of African Americans that created a huge following of people for him. He did not feel that nonviolent approaches towards civil rights would result in change and had a different and more radical way of achieving it. Towards the end of his life he made a surprising change in his life and had completely different ideas for the struggle for civil rights.
Malcolm X was a self-educated man who was imprisoned for ten years. He converted to the Islam religion and preached separatist philosophy before he switched his ideas to the Civil Rights Movement. The major purpose of Malcolm X’s piece was to notify people across the country of all the struggles African Americans were put through if they wanted an education. He encouraged African Americans to fight for the rights they deserved. Malcolm X changed his tone several times throughout the piece and used very rigorous language to appeal to his audience. The major tones of this piece were anger and passion. These were the
Later in 1964, Malcolm X took off on a journey to Arabia to try and find the true religion of Islam. While in Arabia, he underwent his holy pilgrimage. This experience had a very positive impact on Malcolm X. While racial hatred in America had forced black people to the lowest levels of society, Malcolm had come into a society where race didn’t determine a persons role. While in Arabia, a white leader let Malcolm stay with him in his room, which would have been unheard of during the civil rights movements in the States. It was during this trip to Arabia that Malcolm made a big change in his way of life. He finally learned to trust people. He found out that the color of one’s skin doesn’t reflect what kind of person you are, but it’s ones actions that reflect the quality of a person.
Malcolm X was born Malcolm Little, but decided to change his name at some point because he considered his last name to be a slave name and wanted to change that piece of his family’s history. Malcolm was passionate about his cause, to say the least, and believed that only black people could change their unequal fate in America. Due to that philosophy, Malcolm did not allow for whites to help his “Black Power” party in any way, shape, or form. Malcolm also believed that black individuals should protect their rights by any means necessary and that inflicting violence was acceptable because it was for the cause. He was into focusing on religions for his background philosophy and even ditched the concept of racism when he found the Black Muslim religion did not support it. He was shot at one of his rallies, but he was fully aware that he was not liked by everyone and that his life would be cut short by something like
