Honors classes at times can be challenging. However, everyone has different perspectives on them. The difficulty of the courses usually vary by the instructor. Some teachers put a heavy load of work on their students and some give a balanced amount of work. I don't know what the teachers are like at your school but hopefully they won't be so cruel. My teachers were okay I guess. For Honors English, expect more reading and writing. We didn't read a lot of books but we got a ton of time consuming projects along with them that involved a lot of writing. Some of the books we read were Romeo and Juliet (it's lengthy and gets kinda boring), Fahrenheit 451, Anthem, and the Count of Monte Cristo which was our summer reading book. Don't procrastinate! It's stressful trying to do all your work in one night especially if it's work from an honors class. If you get a week to do a project do a little each day. 2. Try to get the correct amount of sleep on school on nights. Teens need up 8-9 hrs of sleep. It's tough going to school fatigued. 3. Take ten minutes to review your notes from every class everyday to keep your memory fresh of the materials. 4. Ask questions. Your teachers are always there to help you. Don't be shy. 5. Have a planner to write down important dates like due dates for projects and to make sure you know what homework you need to have done. 6. It's freshmen year people often times get lost. So obtain the schools map from the schools website or administration office they could possibly give you a map and directions. If you could find your first period you could ask the teacher for help. 6. Stay of out of trouble! It could end up on your permanent record. Don't get info fights, don't bully others, don't do drugs that could mess you up. Just don't do anything you're not supposed to if you know what I mean LOL. I know it's a bit much but it helps. 7. I think I should be considered for a membership for the National Junior Honor Society or NJHS because I am a different individual with a dream. My dream is to fulfill my parents dream and make them proud. My parents have done so much for me and they deserve to be repaid. My parents want me to go to a good college and graduate
Adolescents today face a widespread chronic health problem: sleep deprivation. Research shows that getting enough sleep is a biological necessity. Sleep is essential for a person’s health and wellbeing, according to the National Sleep Foundation (NSF). Teens are among those least likely to get enough sleep; while they need on average 9 1/4 hours of sleep per night for optimal performance and health and brain development, teens average fewer than 7 hours per school night, and most report feeling tired during the day (Nationwide Childrens, 2003). The root of the problem is early school start times.
My first priority is to perform well in my classes. Personally I plan to build the framework to my goal-oriented mindset by keeping a daily agenda that will organize the classes and meetings that I have to attend. I believe that constructing a list will enable me to develop a healthy habit while performing my daily activities. I also plan on dedicating 2-3 hours to review and study new materials that I learned in class as well as prepare myself for future lessons throughout the week.
As a result of a changing body and mind, adolescent sleep cycles have different needs than those of adults or younger children. As a matter of fact, Biologically, sleep patterns shift toward later times for both sleeping and waking during adolescence -- meaning it is natural to not be able to fall asleep before 11:00 pm (“Teens”). In addition to biological change in sleep patterns, teenagers also tend to have eccentric sleep cycles. Obtaining less than healthy hours of sleep during the school week and then catching up on their sleep on the weekends. Most teenagers during the school week, do not get the suggested amount of sleep. In fact, according to a recent poll conducted by the National Sleep Foundation, 80% of teenagers do not get the suggested amount of sleep of 9 hours on school nights (“School Start”). With changing bodies and minds, along with an increased amount of schoolwork and extracurricular activities, teenagers need more sleep than children of a younger age. Experts believe that moving back the start time of school for high school students will improve grades, test scores, and the overall health and personality of many students.

Rules governing academic integrity among students and schools is a practice deeply entrenched in the American education system and that of those around the world. Likely beginning at the University of Virginia in the United States during 1842 as a way to discourage cheating, dishonesty, and plagiarism, it soon spread throughout the nation. Today, the overwhelming majority of schools in the US, from elementary to collegiate, have their own form of a honor code. Among these schools is Port Charlotte High School, PCHS abbreviated, whose own code of conduct is based heavily on students being educated about the effects that their cheating will have on their academic future and punishing those who are discovered to have cheated in any form. So far, these particular academic regulations have proven successful and because of this, the charge put forward by the school should continue to be maintained. Revising the Code of Conduct into a peer-enforced system creates is statistically inefficient, hostilities between students, and eliminating the honor code would easily produce a school where cheating reigns free.
That was difficult for me because i sometimes would not know what to write about. Also when reading, i would mostly focus on getting the work out of the way instead of paying attention to the book. My biggest problem was that i would find events, but I would not meet the word count. Over all I feel like that was what hurt my grade the most.
Everyone filed into the classroom on the first day of school with boredom written on each and every students face. As I sit down in the last seat of the last row, I look to see if there is a child I may know. There's not. I should not be so disappointed. Taking honors classes in high school is absurd to the people I associate with. This year is different from any other year. It is junior year. I have to study like there is no tomorrow considering I made the wrong decisions last year. These decisions kept me from playing softball for a third year and to solely focus on obtaining the advanced honors diploma. Over the course of this experience I hope to gain experience I had not received in the years prior.
#2-Good note taking, notes help you with studying and on tests. Would you rather have notes about the subject you just learned or have no notes for a test? Good notes means a good grades.
A Second strategy to reaching my goal is to complete my work on a good timing. The work my teacher gives me in that day to complete do it not taking
To begin, school starting as early as it is, teens don’t get enough sleep. Not getting enough sleep is affecting the body negatively. Teens usually get six to seven hours of sleep but Dr. Cora Breuner says, “ We truly believe that our teenagers are getting six to seven hours of sleep a night, and they need eight to 10 (Shute).” Sleep deficit is what most teenagers face. Teens try to redress this by consuming caffeine. Caffeinating to get through the day or trying to sleep more on weekends cannot fix this problem (Shute). In fact it makes it worse.
Upon reviewing the “Best Strategies for success in school” I realize that I now apply many ideas I use to ignore to my school approach such as getting to know my instructors, breaking down projects into more manageable tasks to avoid procrastination, and staying healthy. All the strategies listed are important but the three key strategies that will remain with me the longest throughout my academic career will be to getting help with difficult class work early, keeping most
College is a competitive environment; in order to succeed in it a student needs certain skills. Those skills can only be learned. A college professor mentioned that there five basic rules that need to be followed in order to become a good student: study, do all the homework and the assigned reading, attend class, and, most importantly, develop self-discipline and time management 1.
