Royalton High School follows a 7 period day schedule, 50 minutes class periods, typically 5 days a week beginning at 8:15am and ending at 3:22pm. A regularly scheduled day consists of seven four minute passing periods and a 15 minute homeroom at the end of the day. Homeroom is not considered as a scheduled class, and even though it is not required, it is still beneficial to many students. The sole purpose of homeroom is to inform students of extracurricular activities, scholarships and college visits, the announcements, and reduce class absences.
Keeping homeroom in the schedule is beneficial to me because it gives me time to wrap-up and gather my homework at the end of the day. Homeroom is also beneficial for students to acknowledge up coming

Based on the enrollment size of Royalton High School, it is classified as a single A division school for all sports except football. Traveling for athletic competition is required because of Royaltons suburb location and since most schools ranked in the single A division in Minnesota are at least 30 minutes or farther from Royalton, athletic teams are dismissed early from school for traveling. Homeroom only covers 15 minutes of the school day and to travel to most Single A schools, it will take twice that time excluding the extra time needed to load the bus and warm up. Having homeroom is beneficial for athletes because it allows them to be present for instruction rather than if Royalton High School did not have homeroom, athletes would be missing the entire seventh period instead of a few minutes. I find homeroom beneficial for this reason because I typically would end up missing work time rather than instruction. Missing instruction means having to learn the concepts on my own time to stay caught up with the class, while missing work time, it’s not the most important part of a class, but it just signifies that i’m going to have homework. I participate in Royalton Track and Field, a single A division sport within the school. The team typically competes twice a week against …show more content…
As a junior, it is important to be informed of where to find scholarships, and what to do with them since it is beneficial for the future. Personally, being informed of scholarships is beneficial to me because there are scholarships that juniors can apply for and it also allows me to know where to find them for my senior year. However, as advantageous as it may be to a junior such as myself, it is more beneficial to seniors. Scholarships are important to seniors, and having knowledge of how they can receive free money to pay for the tuition is important to most students since not everyone’s parents pay for their tuition. Along with scholarships, college visits benefit seniors and juniors by informing them of the specific programs those college offer, the type of school such as: a four year, a two year, technical or community college, and cost. College visits also inform students of scholarships and ways to make their schooling more cost effective and without homeroom, seniors or juniors would not know where to find this information with discussing it with someone in an authoritative position within the school such as the guidance counselor, principal, vice principal, or teachers and
Students should always have daily recess. “Recess provides an essential component of a child’s education and developmental needs” (The Effects of Pre-Correction and Active Supervision on Recess Behavior of Elementary Students). “Recess is defined as a regularly scheduled period within the school day for physical activity and play that is monitored by trained staff or volunteers. Recess periods should not be a replacement for physical education classes. Recess is a period of time when students are encouraged to be physically active and engaged with their peers in activities of their choice” (Strategies for Recess in Schools).
I believe that Polk County Early College High School would be a great school for me because of smaller class sizes and more one on one opportunity with teachers. I feel that I thrive in that kind of setting because you can feel free to ask for help if needed, and it will be provided much more easily than in a larger class room. I also love the opportunity that the school provides to be able to earn college credits while attending high school. I am a very self motivated person and being able to complete work at my own pace would be significant. If I am working at my own pace I will be given the chance to work ahead and cover more material which is great. I think Polk County Early College would be the perfect school for me because I would be
Early College High School at Delaware State University is a place to save time and money, and earn up to at least 60 college credits in high school. If I were to describe ECHS in one sentence, I would say that they move very quickly, but are very helpful. Although this school is very helpful there is a downfall, that downfall is that they are unorganized. One thing that made my 9th grade year here at The Early College High School at Delaware State University more smoothly was that some of my teachers had a sense of humor which made the environment feel a lot more positive and it made me feel comfortable that this school isn’t severely strict. The components of College Readiness at the Early College High School at Delaware State University
Attending Cross Creek Early College High School is interesting to me because I will be able to complete high school and some college courses at the same time. I have always dreamed of going to college and this is school will allow me to get a head start on my goals and ambitions. My goal is to be the first person in my family to attend and graduate from college with a bachelor’s degree. Here you need to explain your career goal or what you want to major in. It is my belief that Cross Creek Early College will provide me with the support to reach this goal and to let my other family members know that a college degree will allow me to be a productive citizen.
How, we would shorten classes and would start at eight o’clock in the morning bringing the time we get out to about 12:00. Each
Throughout our lives, we will endure plenty of mistakes and take ownership of situations we did not mean to create. When asking the question ‘If you were to get one do-over in life, what would it be and why?’, my answer would be to attend an early college high school.
School should start at 10:30AM because this gives students an opportunity to get more sleep. “Research suggests that adolescents require about 8.5 to 9.5 hours of sleep, but only 14% achieve this goal, and approximately 70%of adolescents obtain less that 8 hours of sleep on a typical weeknight,” according to Julie Boergers, Ph.D. (Boergers, 2015). With early school start times, students usually don’t get enough sleep. Also, later school start times can help improve a student's health and ability to function (Boergers, 2015). If school is started at 10:30AM and ends at 6:30PM it gives students an opportunity to get the sleep they need. Later school start times can improve a student’s ability to learn, but so can block scheduling. With block scheduling, longer and more efficient lessons can be taught everyday, and there will not be as many students in each class, so the teacher can help each student individually (2002-2015). Although block scheduling may help a student, it can also be a disadvantage. All lessons taught in an average semester would have to be taught in one quarter (2002-2015). Since block scheduling would reduce amount of students in each class, there should be an average of 16 students. Small classes help improve a student's academic achievement and their behavior. Also, they give teachers the opportunity to teach a longer amount of time. Class-Size Reduction is trying to reduce classes sizes from an average of 25 down
Freshman 101 is a class adapted from the parrot program (Fay & Medway, 2006, p. 226). The parrot program was designed for college students at Cornell University. Freshman 101 is the first of its kind in the state of South Carolina and the first to extend Parrot’s college program to high school freshmen (p. 226). Each two-hour intervention class contained 25 to 30 freshmen students. The objectives of the class were to have participants understand the definition of acquaintance rape and the frequency that it takes place along with South Carolina’s laws regarding rape (p. 226). Students also learned about mixed messages associated with verbal and non-verbal communication and how to clearly state their wants and desires (p. 227). Communication,
Junior High is a scary thought. You are little and going to school with the big kids. It wasn’t to bad after I got used to it.
Freedom is all about being independent and making your own choices and decisions. Freedom is about not having to listen to other people and being able to do what you want and when you want to. With making all these choices on your own requires responsibility. Responsibility and freedom go hand in hand with each other.
We all regret some of the choices we’ve had in the beginning of our high school journey. Since we can’t go back and change them, we can always give advice to the incoming freshman who may need our advice. Coming from middle school can be a hard transition because there are so many new things to learn. New students will face a new campus, teachers, friends, and overall a new way of life. I believe that freshman students who struggle to adapt into high school can lead to poor grades, peer pressure, and losing focus of long term goals. Here are some suggestions to help incoming freshman have a successful high school experience.
One of the pros that affects students most is fewer failing grades. This is a direct result of the extra time that is left over for teacher-student interaction. More help from the teacher results in stronger relationships and resulting in less dropouts. For instance, for classes like chemistry and biology there is more time for students to complete labs and activities. Better labs and activities are a result of the extra day teachers have to prep on the days they do not teach that particular class. One of the hardest Obstacles for high school students is to manage their schoolwork, job , and athletics if they participate in them. This schedule format helps them do just that; therefore, the students will have more time after they are done with their classes to relax before continuing with their days. The pros discussed in this paragraph defend the ideology that surrounds block scheduling.
Did you know that 73% of people around the world thinks that it's good to have recess. Recess is a time for students and teachers to have a break from school work. I think recess is important because students need to be healthy, soalicalise with others, get a break from school work/teachers.
“Since 9/11, (America’s airport security has) largely been a line of defense ahead of a departure gate to keep dangerous people and dangerous materials off a plane. By Bin Laden’s calculations, its cost $56 billion since 9/11. In one sense, it is worked as planned: No planes have been blown up or hijacked for a decade” (Airport Security Statistics). This quote explains that since 9/11 the airport security’s line of defense has been successful so far in keeping the people and the dangerous materials off the planes. While there are people who think that airport security is too strict, there are others who think that it is just fine the way it is right now. “They check every
Therefore, it would require students to utilize the time to prepare for the next school day. If it became mandatory for students to use homeroom as a study hall, they would have extra time to complete a fraction of their homework as well as check their planners to decide what’s necessary to bring home in order to complete the remaining sections of their homework. If students were given the the allotted time, it would be used to meet with teachers to receive any last minute help on assignments or to catch up missed work. Even though they may not need to meet with teachers and discuss assignments every day, on the occasion they do, homeroom would serve as an opportunity for them to take advantage of time and better themselves for the sake of their education. If the students utilized homeroom properly, they would benefit from having an opportunity to relax and wind down every day while they prepare for the next
