When examining the context, the family must work at least 55 hours per week to be considered over the poverty line. However, many work places will not allow overtime, so being in a single parent household, or having only one family member working will not make the amount to fall over the poverty line. Although, working for minimum wage and having 55 hours per week may not be allowed, but finding a job that pays $10 an hour for 40-hours a week would push a family over the poverty line. So, if only one person is working they will have to pick up another job, if they are only working minimum wage.

BFDC shows one communication weakness during difficult times when uncomfortable feelings are caused by the parent because of the tone that is shared in a conversation. BFDC need to reflect on what might have occurred for a parent to feel a certain way and develop a different way of communicating between one another. Another communication weakness is not accepting all the opinions and values about children from Bright from the Start and QR. BFDC needs to recognize that change is good by acknowledging and respecting their perspective of seeing things different. The third communication weakness is when BFDC feels hesitant on approaching a parent because of their non-verbal communication. BFDC needs to make sure that they are mindful of how their nonverbal communication is perceived and to be aware of their tone of voice and the way they cross their arms when talking to parents. “People may express meaning with affect displays by using facial expressions to communicate disgust, hostility, or joy” (Waldeck, Kearney, and Plax, p.39).
