This quote helps show that Friar was helping Juliet. He gives her a vial of potion that she will take to hibernate. Because of this, Romeo believes Juliet is truly dead and he kills himself, wanting to be with her. During this time of chaos, Friar Lawrence was supposed to go down to the cellar and get Juliet so she didn’t suffocate, but he didn’t help Juliet. He let her kill herself, which is exactly what happened. “Yea, noise? Then I’ll be brief. O happy dagger! This is thy sheath; there rust, and let me die”(Shakespeare 842). This quote shows that Friar Lawrence was there and he just wanted them out of there because he heard a noise; he only cares about himself and his safety. He didn’t even bother to save Juliet when she was going crazy and stabbed herself. He left her alone and attempted to get out of the tomb. He
Friar Lawrence was responsible for the demise of Romeo and Juliet. Firstly because, he married Romeo and Juliet way too quickly. Romeo was in love with Rosaline hours before he fell in love with Juliet and Friar Lawrence knew this. He told Romeo, ““Thy love did read by rote, that could not spell.../In one respect I’ll thy assistant be:/For this alliance may so happy prove/To turn your households’ rancour to pure love” (2.3. 88-92). In this quote, Friar Lawrence tells Romeo that he does not truly understand love because he went from loving Rosaline to loving Juliet so quickly, however, he still agrees to marry them. Friar Lawrence had no reason to act rash like Romeo and Juliet did. His only reason to marry Romeo and Juliet was to end the feud.
Friar Lawrence is the reason why Romeo and Juliet died. “Take thou this vial, being in bed and this distilled liquor drink thou off.” This quote shows that Friar Lawrence gives Juliet the potion to kill herself. Friar Lawrence, murder, a man foiled by fate, or just not that smart? In Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare, there was a Friar which Romeo and Juliet went to for most of their problems regarding their love. This Friar is a philosophical man and extremely knowledgeable with plants. As people can see he tries to help.
Friar Lawrence plays a big part in causing the death of Romeo and Juliet because he secretly marries them knowing something either negative or positive will happen. Friar even tells Romeo the cautions for he says 'Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.' (Act II Scene III 97) Friar marries them because he thinks that the marriage is going to end the feud between the families of Romeo and Juliet. He knows that even though Romeo and Juliet are in love they will never be able to see each other. Not in a grave to lay one in, another out to have” (Act II scene III 85) Also, if Friar Lawrence did not give Juliet the potion that she was going to use to deceive her family into thinking she was dead to get out of her marriage to Paris and make Romeo aware of what was going to happen, their deaths would not have occurred. Romeo goes to the tomb thinking Juliet is really dead after Balthasar accidently informed him of Juliet’s apparent death not knowing of her plan. If he had stayed there longer without taking the poison he had obtained from Apothecary they both would not have killed themselves. He brought the poison to the tomb to end his own life next to Juliet after seeing for himself if she was really dead. Romeo did not want to live without Juliet.

A reason people may think this is because Friar Lawrence was unable to send the letter to Romeo in Mantua about how Juliet wasn’t actually dead. Well actually, if the Montagues and Capulets were at peace to start the story, Juliet would’ve never had to fake her death to be with Romeo. Therefore, Friar Lawrence is not to blame for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet because Friar Lawrence would’ve never been in that position if it were not for the hatred between the Montague family and the Capulet family. The hatred between the two families is the real reason for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, not Friar
The potion was able to have Juliet fake her death for forty-two hours and place her into a catatonic state. Juliet took this potion so she could get away with not having to marry Paris. According to act 4 scene 4 and 5, the nurse was the one to find Juliet deceased in her bed and is the one to tell Juliet's parents. When Romeo caught the wind with this tragedy he discovered that he couldn’t live his life without Juliet so he ended up killing himself. Friar Lawrence is most likely the biggest to blame for these lovers’ deaths due to the fact that he has given the poison to Juliet which causes Romeo's death and then Juliet's. Friar Lawrence comes up with what seems like a phenomenal plan; fake a death, escape the city, and live happily ever after! Sadly, Friar Lawrence is making a fatal mistake; instead of simply telling Romeo of his and Juliet's plan, he plans on sending a letter through Friar John. To his surprise the letter does not go through! "After I found him, the healthy officers,/suspecting we were in a house infected by the plague,/boarded up the doors, and wouldn't let us out. So I couldn't go/ to Mantua"(5.2.6-9). As Friar John explains, he was suspected of having the plague and was not able to deliver the letter to Romeo. Although the letter seems like a liable idea, it is not nearly as reliable as simply informing Romeo of the actual situation. By simply speaking face to face with Romeo, Romeo will know the situation of Juliet and the poison and will not kill himself. Therefore, by giving Juliet poison and not informing Romeo, Friar Lawrence is to blame for Romeo and Juliet's
