Fish Oil Research Study

1.What two factors did you investigate in your procedure, and why did you choose to compare these two factors?

I improved the way I find evidence by using reputable database like EBSCO rather than Google. This removed any doubt that the source was credible due to the revisions of peers who are experts in the respective fields. When combining all of the evidence, I learned to corroborate evidence in the same paragraph by finding studies that show similar results (3-4).

A) Create a social science research question that you would like to learn more about.

One known research method is the Scientific Method which is a uniform way of creating observations, assembly data, establishing concepts, testing predictions, and understanding outcomes. These observations are made in order to observe and define behaviors. The first step to take in using a scientific method is to develop an issue or question. Next step is to perform a research and observation on the issue or question that was developed. Then a hypothesis needs to be formulated after these steps have been made.

By consuming omega-3s daily, one increases the resilience of the brain to kinetic and psychological stresses. A study on rats proved that by taking DHA, one’s behavioral memory after a traumatic brain injury will improve in multiple categories compared to those who did not take DHA. The study was proven by having the rats perform wa- ter maze testing, which analyzes memory. Specifically, the phospholipids of the fatty acids serve as a protection mechanism at the cellular and neuron level, specifically the modulation of the in- flammation cascade in order to improve the memory after TMI. Many would love to believe that fish oil is a long sought after cure for Alzheimer’s Disease, but thus far there is no scientific evidence to support this theory. Studies have in fact shown that patients who began to supplement their diets with fish oil prior to the on-set of Alzheimer’s, have shown a decreased risk in developing the disease. Studies have also shown, those who continuously eat a healthy diet rich in fish, especially those containing high levels of fatty acids, are also less likely to develop Alzheimer’s Disease.
