While completing the volunteer hours, I have chosen to work at a home health care service in Baton Rouge, LA. The care service is called Heavenly Haven. At age 34 while five months pregnant she was told that she had pulmonary hypertension (very high blood pressure). For a while, she felt fine but a few weeks after her son was born she found everyday tasks a challenge. From then on she was constantly in and out of hospitals, she had to travel with portable oxygen and found that even walking a few steps was difficult. Soon after she developed severe heart failure and her kidneys began to shut down. She was told she needed a lung transplant but this was impossible if she went on dialysis for her kidney failure as well as not being strong enough for the operation.
