In the world filled with so many different and diverse people, there are some individuals who are just so extraordinarily strange or gifted. These people may be part of a group where they belong in, or they may be an isolation from social life. People and outsiders of society and groups are both misjudged and misunderstood by strangers, friends, and families. An outsider is one who is simply just misjudged by others. A big factor of misjudging someone is the appearance of how they physically look. For example, in the novel The Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka, the main character, Gregor Samsa, wakes up one morning to discover that he has transformed into a human bug. When his body became visible to the Samsa family, everyone freaks out and starts …show more content…
They may feel something that other people may not, or even feel differently about. For example, in the article “Being Misunderstood” by Lynne Soraya, the author summarizes her troublesome teenage life of ‘“[...] trying to find someone who will understand [her], but because of [her] life, [she] wind[ed] up having to give [people] a tutorial about how [she] act[ed] and why’” (Soraya Paragraph 2). This shows that an outsider like Lynne, own thoughts and perceptions that others might consider very strange or unpredictable. For instance, during her high school life, she always hung out with boy students. Other people viewed her as unusual and started to bully her because they thought she would instantly start dating one of the boy friends, when she explained they were only her friends and that she is a very shy person who’s not into teen relationships. This precisely exhibits the truth that people’s misunderstanding of an individual is caused by how different each person is and the society or group that they are in. One group may misunderstand someone for a particular reason, and another group may misconceive that same person for a different reason. An outsider who thinks in a different way may be subject to misunderstanding by people and
It appears that the people who care the most end up getting hurt by the ones they love. The more time, energy, love, and money that a person sometimes invests get thrown back in their face once something drastic happens. In turn, this causes feelings of worthlessness and isolation and can eventually lead to death. Franz Kafka understands this better than anyone else and can portray this in his novella, the Metamorphosis. In his novella, The Metamorphosis, the protagonist, Gregor Samsa is one who undergoes a physical and mental transformation due to the unrelenting pressures that his father placed upon him which eventually cause him to die. At the heart of the father-son relationship lies Gregor and his father whose relationship is explored
Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka. This book was significant to me because it showed how society has been distorted, preventing humanity of doing what brings happiness. This causes a distortion of a person in such a way that eventually there is no recognition with the person that once belonged to that body. The mind and body are not connected; the body wants to follow what the world says is necessary and the mind wants to do what brings happiness and humility to a person. With the significance that this book brings to me, I find myself trying harder to overcome the disconnection between the mind and body. I want to do what I find happiness in and what makes me humble, and I want to not only be successful with the opportunities that life presents,
What does being outsider mean? Does it mean being left out of being different? People have often felt like an outsider at one point in their life, and wonder why. Are outsiders misjudged or misunderstood? These two terms meet at a crossroads, and are commonly misinterpreted. Misjudging someone is when you make a solid assumption or conclusion about them, whether it be on their looks our how they act. Being misunderstood is when someone interprets you for someone you are not. Based on both of these definitions, outsiders are simply misjudged. We can see examples of outsiders being misjudged both in literature and in modern day society.
Being an outsider is a position that an individual does not fit in with the rest of society. Areas of society are often called clique at which we feel like we must coordinate our actions to follow and pleases. Those actions leads to the anonymous question should the outside, those who do not follow the rest be embraced or rejected. Corresponding with the rights of our world, we are seen as equal, yet we do not always follow that. Outsiders should be rejected, providing them growth, individuality through independence and, crucial life skills.
Have you ever walked into school or a job and felt like you were not like everyone else? Many people struggle with the feeling of not fitting into a certain norm, which causes them to feel as though they are an outsider. In the story Metamorphosis by Franz Kafka Gregor Samsa becomes an outsider when he wakes up to discover he is a monstrous bug. Not only does his family misjudge him but they starve, mistreat, and seclude him. Outsiders like Gregor Samsa have always been different and misjudged.
Are outsiders simply those who are misjudged or misunderstood? Whether outsiders are misjudged or misunderstood depends on whose perspective you view this question from. When you look at someone you are developing an opinion of them, and you may be misjudging them by deciding they are an outsider. While when you are the person being judged you feel that you are just simply misunderstood. You may have experienced one or probably both of these perspectives. Moreover to truly understand what it means to be an outsider you need to understand both of these perspectives.
People might leave “outsiders” out due their appearance and might “look different” from everyone else. These “outsiders” are left out and it can make them feel bad about themselves and their appearance. For instance, in Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, the main character, Gregor, is isolated by his family after turning into a bug. Before he was a bug, his family is fine with him and treats him fairly. After he turns into a bug, his family traps him inside his room and that causes him to lose his humanity. Gregor can be compared to an outsider because he was left out and isolated from
In the Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka bring out the character of a hardworking man, Gregor, who faces an incident where he soon is driven into complications to remain his once isolated life. Gregor’s alienation causes no gain for help from anyone even after the tragedy of transforming into a roach. Isolation removes all social interactions affecting the character of the persona by which can no longer seek help or gain itself being. Isolation in life, results in the expulsion of humankind partying from all social interactions, preventing contact with the world.
What is an outsider? An outsider is a person who is not excepted by or is isolated by society. Have you ever been an “outsider”? Everyone experiences a situation where they weren’t able to fit in. The feeling of not being able to fit it is universal. Not everyone is the same and in certain situations you may not be able to bond with everyone. Everyone is focused on being judged or being the person who is judging someone. If you are not like everyone in your society group, those people don’t except you. Nowadays our society feels that if you aren’t up to people’s expectations, you are known to be an “outsider”. Being an outsider is universal because not everyone is social, not everyone can afford nice things and not everyone is popular.
Have conflicts with others ever change how you feel about yourself? In 1915, Franz Kafka published the novella, Metamorphosis. He included many personal connections that can be seen through the character of Gregor. Due to the bad relationship that Gregor shares with his father, he possessed many conflicts within himself. His conflicts can be seen when he becomes a bug, when he starts to become distant from his family and lose the connections he once had, and when he begins to not eat.
An outsider can be a person who does normally not fit in with the people around them, acknowledging that they are unique and special in their own way. Another way an outsider can be looked at as is “a person not belonging to a particular group, set, party, etc.” (Dictionary.com). With there being different meanings to the word outsider an actual outsider can be timid and absent to the people around them or they can be outspoken and persistent by any means necessary.
What exactly is an outsider? Does it apply to an individual or does it apply to the world? Is the principle a positive or a negative concept? An outsider is an individual who does not “fit” into society or isolates themselves from the rest. “The Outsiders” is a novel written based on the author, S.E Hinton’s, high school years in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The book is mainly about the division between the greasers and the Soc. The Soc is higher class and rich, but the greasers are the opposite. The reason why she wrote this novel is that she found the social situation in her school purely ridiculous and she was upset by this. Usually, in these types of situations, the majority will choose a side between the greasers and the Soc because

Embracing the themes of isolation, alienation and arbitrary exercise, author Franz Kafka sets the tone for a more morbid prose. In his short story, Metamorphosis, Franz Kafka takes his character Gregor on a crisis that reveals the reality of the absurdity of life and the experience with alienation. Raised with three sisters, Kafka’s perspectives on feminism was quite impacted as it reveals throughout the context of his writing. Kafka has reflected many aspects of his life through the words he embeds onto paper. As well as Arthur Miller. Although Arthur Miller’s writing style contrasts the effect of Franz's writing, they both have impacted the history with their numerous references to various themes revealing the diverse life of humanity.
