Being an American can mean a number of different things. The most important however, is freedom. As an American citizens, we have freedoms that many others do not. We have the freedom to vote for our president, freedom of speech, religion, and more. Being an American doesn’t just mean you were born in the United States, you can become a citizen by taking a test about our country. Our country is unique because we are made up with people from all around the world. We all have different religions we follow, languages we speak, as well as where we come from. Unlike other countries who might split apart and come up with different names, because of diversity, we embrace our differences. People have been immigrating to our country from around the world for ages. Mostly for one of two reasons; the hope of personal freedom and the hope for economic opportunity. These people help shape and mold our country. All Americans have been immigrants or they are descendants of them. Immigrants brought over a number of traditions, music styles, foods, and many more. Even the American language comes from a variety of different places. Do you like Ravioli, or what about Goulash? Our menus include countless dishes from around the world. Can you imagine a life where none of these people had come to America? We wouldn’t get to experience all the different …show more content…
For example, in school we stand for the pledge every morning to show support for all the men and women who fought, and are fighting for our freedom. Another way we honor our troops is singing the national anthem before sports events. We also celebrate our independence from Britain on the Fourth of July. On Friday, November 11, we celebrate Veterans Day. This holiday also honors those who have served in the United States Armed Forces. We also honor those who have died serving our country on Monday, May 29, Memorial
In our society nowadays, many people take our freedoms for granted. We live our lives as if we had it hard. They complain about all their work, high taxes, bills, corrupt government, and just how terrible people treat one another. Most American citizens believe we should be further ahead and better if you will. “How could we have gotten to this point?” many people ask. What these people don’t realize is how many have sacrificed themselves to help us to get here and make us a better country.
What does it mean to be an American? In my eyes to be an American means to have privileges, rights, and freedom. America isn't perfect, but it is one of the only countries that have rights given to people of different diversities and gender. America does not have tremendous poverty. Instead we have choices given to us by the people who fought and died for the American people. Without George Washington and the other patriots who planted the first seed in the ground and help plant the American nation we live in now who knows what America would be like now.
What means to be an American? About everywhere in the societies and the people in it have diverse opinions to be an American especially when they are from different country. Being an American means to have a willing to accept others from different culture, freedom to do anything, and to have opportunities in terms of relaxed atmosphere.
What it means to be American? Everybody you ask this question to will have a completely different response. Some responses might have similarities but none will be exactly the same. In the beginning of the year my response was “To be an American means having a rich history, having opportunities to better ourselves, and having freedoms.” Unfortunately not everyone has had the same opportunities or freedoms. Native Americans, who are indigenous, dealt with having their freedoms taken away, less opportunities even though they had rich history in this land before it was taken away from them. Look at what Zitkala-Sa endured. Not only that, but African Americans have fought long and hard for freedom and equality as well. W.E.B. Du Bois stood for
Do you consider yourself to be an American? Being an American is not just having a citizenship or living in America it is much more. America doesn’t just allow the people inside the country to stay, but America gives everyone a second chance at life and give them more opportunities. America has had a long strive for freedom and independence, making the opportunity of living here that much more special. In this essay I will be reading to you my thoughts of what it means to be an American. Bravery, honor, hope, and the freedom and equality of all Americans are the topics that I feel are most important.
To be an American can mean a lot of things to others, but one thing everyone has in common on what they think it means is to be free. It means you can vote for who and what you want. It means you can say “The Pledge of Allegiance.” It means you can have a good education and the job you want. It means to be proud in living in the United States of America. Being an American is having freedom and being able to do things with that freedom. It’s about having freedom of religion, rights, and justice. It also means having equality. To be an American means you have the right and freedom to do what you want. It means having the freedom of speech. It means you can be yourself. To be an American mainly means having freedom.
What is being an American? Being an American is a privilege that some people take for granted. Being an American means being loyal, free, complex, open-minded, and diverse. All five of these things help make America what it is today.
To be American to me means that I have the right to live my life the way id want to. If I have a goal or a dream I can achieve it by working hard. If I have an opinion about something I am allowed to say it without getting into trouble. I am allowed to say my opinion on anything even if it's not nice. People get to go out and make their dreams come true every day. If you work hard for what you want I think you should be considered an American. You decide what to do with your day. No one can force you to do something you don't want. Freedom is an important part of America. Freedom is what makes America
One can say that being an American is like soaring high in the sky, feeling the luscious breeze. People have their own definition of what it means to be an American. Some say it is about loving your country and the people in it or watching football with friends. There are many aspects to being an American. Throughout history, many have set great examples to what being an American is. Each of those examples gave more meaning to what it is to be an American.
America, the land of the free and he home of the brave, but what exactly does this mean to me? Many countries in the world no matter how old or young they may be cannot compare to the Democratic free society created by the blood sweat and tears of pilgrims colonist and slaves. The freedoms and liberties outlined in the Constitution at the time they were written were unheard of. The bravery of the leaders of the Revolutionary war, the Patriots, and the young and the old is the same bravery that all our branches of military have today. Being an American citizen was a blessing that I was born into. However, for other people who were born into less fortunate places would give anything even their lives to get to America.
Being a citizen isn’t just being a part of an American society it’s much more. You have responsibilities and duties that you must do. If they do not do these duties, you hurt other people financially and can create problems with the system and government money. There are some people that do this to and rely on everyone else to support them.
With the given opportunity, I Tabitha Bone, think that the trip through the Fountain Central Future Farmers of America group would be beneficial to not only my growing desire in the field of being a professional translator, but also, the passion I have for not only the language of Spanish, but the desire I have to visit a Spanish-speaking country. The opportunity of going to Belize will give me a greater understanding of Hispanic culture because I plan on minoring in linguistics. I want to further my understanding of these intricate and diverse cultures to help me in my emminent future career. My understanding of Hispanic culture is vital to my future career. Being something or someone extraordinary is always cooler. I hope to be better at a lot of things. I want to get A’s and B’s this whole year. Athletically, I want to play football. Socially, I want to make new friends and keep the friends I have now. I hope to be a better person as a whole this year.
Being American mean living in a world of opportunity. The idea of freedom and diversity is what it mean to be an American. Being able to express all rights to open up doors in the future.
Paradise means something different to everyone. When I was little paradise to me was where my mom was because I knew I was safe and taken care of. As I grew older the more I tried to become independent, the less my mom could protect me and the more I had to start relying on myself. My mom has always been overprotective to the point that some people still call her paranoid. When I was little I was never allowed to leave her side, I was lucky she didn’t home school me. I was always confused as to why other children were allowed to do so much more than me. Eventually I brushed it off and began reading, my new paradise was whatever book I was reading in that moment. Because I was seen as the introvert of the neighborhood I was an easy target.
