English 9 Honor Research Paper

Years of working several different jobs I started to engaged in the process of creating, understanding, and connecting to knowledge and literacy. I became more involved with my work assignments and connected to and learned materials that were given to me. At the age of thirty six writing is still difficult at times because writing has so many subjective aspects it is more complicated than two plus two equals four. Sometimes I feel if there is not a real purpose for writing it is hard for me to get motivated. However I have learned over the years that literacy helped me with the essential steps, to learn exactly what I needed to earn an important education and career credential. Upon entering English 111 on-line class, I had not taken an English class on-line before. In the past I have taken several other basic classes. English has always been a struggle for me, mainly writing and grammar. Neither, writing or grammar has come natural to me. The biggest challenge for me is putting my thoughts into words.

I believe that I would be a perfect fit for National Honor Society. Each and every day I exemplify the four National Honor Society pillars, Character, Service, Scholarship, and Leadership. At the very end of eighth grade our graduating class and teachers had an anonymous vote to pick two people with the best character in the class. I won the award which was called the Marty Lebaron award, donated in the name of a young man who passed away from cancer, but his character was so great it can never be forgotten. I have four younger sisters, very often I am helping them with homework, making sure they are fed, and get to sleep on time. I also babysit my neighbors very small children, their parents trust me to keep their children safe, make dinner, and make sure they get to bed. Every two weeks I would go over and mow my grandparents lawn and clean up their lawn. During the winter I would shovel and make sure the garbage cans make it to the curb on time. This summer when they decided to move to Florida, my dad and I helped them move all of their furniture out of their house and onto the rental truck.

Thank you for giving me a chance to join the National Honor Society (NHS) to further my current and future learning endeavors. Being nominated due to having a high grade point average opened my mind further into how important it is to follow through with learning through and beyond the school and the benefits those grades can get me, such as joining the NHS. While I am aware that school is about far more than learning for grades alone, I am overjoyed with this chance.

I wish to be a member of the National Junior Honor (community of people/all good people in the world) because to be a member of this famous/respected organization means so much to mejust to be invited to be one of its members. It is a great honor to be among the commendable students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. The National Honor Society is discernible for showing an interest in students with exemplary grades, great character, leadership, and service. Last year I was enrolled in a tenth grade honors language class, this year I am taking an advanced placement college course. I am enlisted in all honors classes and I strive to do the best that I can not only academically, but in all activities I participate in. I am a strenuous worker and have great character. Everything I try, I give all my effort, for example, in track I show good sportsmanship and cheer on my fellow athletes at every meet. I also show great leadership qualities.

One of my goals that I set for high school as a freshman was to be inducted into the National Honor Society, now I have the chance to hopefully fulfill this by getting accepted. I believe that through my high school career so far I have exhibited character most accurately according to NHS standards. I am a student who takes pride in being conscientious of my decisions, whether it be to finish homework when I would much rather watch television or to refrain from activities that have a greater chance of negative consequences than positive ones. Ever since my elementary years, I have taken my education and the work I do seriously. My dedication to the qualities of scholarship, character, leadership, and service have helped me during my high school experience as high school was a eye-opener for a young girl with big dreams. A quote that is to mind when I think about what dedication to scholarship and character means to me is one by St. Jerome; “Good, better, best. Never let it rest. Becoming a member of the National Honors Society is a prestigious honor. As a student, I strive for excellence in my academics and have made the honor roll every quarter, showing my aim and dedication to reaching my highest potential. I try not to compete with other students, but with myself. My academics are the result of my hard work, and my dedication towards grades correlates to the dedication I have towards becoming a leader and a role model for the community.

I am very happy and honored to be a part of the students who are being considered for the National Honor Society. Since the beginning of my freshman year, I have been attempting to fulfill the requirements in order to join because I believe that this organization does great things for society, and that its role in our society today corresponds well with my personality and beliefs. Through the National Honor Society, I believe I can make the most of my efforts to help others by developing the skills I already have and also explore new ones so that I can help better our society. Throughout my years of schooling, I have become ambivalent about reading and writing. I have struggled in school to make myself enjoy writing. I didn’t mind reading as much, as long as it was to my interest. It has differed throughout the years I have been in school. Some years I have enjoyed both, reading and writing, and other years I have not liked either. Getting myself to enjoy reading and writing has been quite the adventure.

For many people reading and writing are the most fundamental skills a person can learn, it can also greatly influence a persons cognitive thinking capacity and the sharing of information with others. However, in some parts of the world, people still do not have access to education or the ability to learn to read and write. Lacking the skill to read and write can make things tough for some one in todays society, however with the right resources and mentors to support, one can find a hidden passion for reading and writing. For me, reading and writing has never been one of my greatest skills, I had always struggled throughout my younger years of schooling to keep an interest. As of today, reading and writing has made a great impact on my life, especially in the last few years since I began college.

Reading and writing has always played a vital part in my life. From toddler to adult, pre-elementary to college, I’ve managed to sharpen both skills to my liking. However, even though it significantly helped, schooling was not what influenced me to continue developing those skills into talent. Many different things shaped and influenced my learning, and now reading and writing have become the safety net of my life. I know that even if I have nothing else in the future, I’ll still have my talent and knowledge. To ensure my success, I hope to further develop those skills so that I may fulfill my wishes.

“Just follow the rubric and you will do very well during your high school English experience each,” teacher stated. Teachers handed out a rubric at the beginning of each assignment, which detail every single thing that needed to be included in your paper. As long and you followed all of the instruction stated in the rubric, your paper would qualify you to receive an A. At the time, I thought this method was rather effective. I thought I was a stronger writer as result of being able to follow the instruction from the rubric and always receiving an A on each assignment.
