Emily Murphy: Canadian Women's Rights Activist It was only in this century that women in Canada had equal rights as men. But this would never happen if women themselves would not start fighting for their rights. One of these women was Emily Murphy and her greatest achievement, Emily proved that women are `persons' and therefore they have the right to work in any political office.
In 1912 she joined Winnipeg’s Political Equality League, P.E.L., which was one of the most enterprising and successful organizations in women’s suffrage (*****Granatstein). The P.E.L. was originally a response to unfortunate female factory
The Famous Five, or Valiant Five, was not only made up of five strong, independent women, but five role models. It started with Emily Murphy, a bright woman from Cookstown, Ontario, who was determined to make a difference for women all over Canada. She enlisted four other activists, Nellie McClung, Louise McKinney, Henrietta Edwards, and Irene Parlby, who would help her on her journey to get women legally recognised as “persons” in Canada. Although the five made history together, they each have very unique backstories and each of these women have helped to make a significant difference in the lives of women for many years to come. Emily Murphy was a women’s rights activist and a feminist.
In the late 19th century, woman’s suffrage was an extreme idea usually promoted by outspoken people on the outside of polite society. The beginning of the movement was weak and fragile, with supporters trying their best to push woman’s suffrage into the spotlight and onto the main party platforms. The movement could not afford to have supporters more volatile than the already radical idea of allowing woman the vote. In an effort to push support for woman’s suffrage in the 1880s, the National Woman’s Suffrage Association (NWSA) decided that they needed to portray themselves and their supporters as respectable and honorable women. Matilda Joslyn Gage was one of several woman whose contributions were downplayed by the history books and by
Prior to the 20th Century, the idea of equal rights or even something similar to equal rights was just a distant thought of a few. The drive towards equal rights was a seed waiting to be planted and once it was, the seed sprouted and became strongly rooted. We of the 21st Century are benefiting from a society established on these roots. A societal change was a result of the sacrifices of past leaders, namely a woman by the name of Alice Paul. Alice Paul was an amazing leader, possessing qualities that all aspiring leaders should try to emulate. By investigating the leadership styles Alice Paul incorporated, we can determine how she was able to influence the movement, the results of her contributions and how the leadership styles are able

It is difficult to discern whether the voting rights for women over thirty was influenced by their years of suffragette campaigning, or a prize for their contribution to the war. Nevertheless, the war has removed the many obstacles to gain reformation, and allowing women to prove themselves on the workforce. Emmeline renamed the W.S.P.U to Women’s Party, and campaigned tirelessly for her daughter, Christabel, to run in the House of Commons, but lost by a small margin. In the later years, Emmeline became fond of Canada due to her numerous tours of lectures regarding the wickedness of Bolshevism, to America. There are a time and place for all leadership styles. No style is right or wrong. It is how leaders use them that determine success or failure. I started working at Ashley Stewart on June 6, 2000. My first position was a sales associate. After working six months, I was invited to transfer to one of the Cleveland stores as a co-manager. After working there for a year, I was asked to move back to Toledo where I became a store manager for five years. In 2006, I was promoted to a District Manager and transferred to Columbus to open two new Ashley Stewart stores. When I registered for a leadership class, I wondered how many ways a person can learn about leadership. After taking a management class, I learned that leadership is a process whereby an
Leadership is a skill that one is not born with, but is acquired through life experiences and interactions. Michelle Obama perseverance to attain a higher education, a concept foreign in her family, shows the dedication and determination a leader must have. As a leader, it is imperative that once you establish a mission or purpose, that you, as well as your team members, worked to accomplish that goal. Because of her perseverance, Michelle can be best identified as a pace setter, innovative and charismatic leader because through the various projects she undertook as her role of First Lady, she influences people through personality, inspires passion and the need to be active in one’s own community. For example, this can be seen in her role as Executive Director for the Chicago office of Public Allies where she mobilized youths and community to get active and set fundraising records for the organization that still stood 12 years after she left. Michelle influences people through her own success. Having attended Harvard Law, becoming a top attorney and later the first African American First Lady, she has influenced youths across the nation to believe that anything is possible, so long as they have faith. In accordance to the Leadership Theories, Michelle Obama can be categorized under the Authentic Leadership Approach; for these leaders, their leadership is genuine, develops over time, transparent and driven by moral values (Komives, Lucas&, McMahon). Projects such as Let’s
Many people this day and age will argue what it takes to be a good leader. Some like to look towards politics at the Presidents because they have good backgrounds, plus they lead people, but it is always wise and good to look at the leadership of people in the military. Lots and lots of people have come through the United States militaries, some of those men and women left a bigger mark than others. Military leaders and the leadership shown in the military is always respected too. Although Michael P. Murphy was an outstanding leader before he joined the military, one instance of his leadership while in the Navy will forever leave the Murphy name marked in history.
