This is the area in which my leadership skills are put to the test. At any given moment, I could be given three to four tasks that are all important and must be completed in a small amount of time. Prioritizing these tasks can be fairly difficult but I am trusted with this responsibility. Leader X has a strong influence on me and how I wish to conduct myself in a position of leadership. Leader X oversees twenty attorneys and four legal support staff. She has a warm and inviting personality. She is punctual and educated in law and litigation. She encourages her staff to have a lot of input into the day to day decisions made within the office. In the text, Colquitt (2011) defines leadership as the use of power and influence to direct the actions of followers. In order for one to effectively lead, they must possess influence over others. Leader X has been employed within the legal field for more than twenty five years. Her knowledge and experience is what qualifies her as a Senior Counsel within her agency. She possesses all the characteristics of my definition of an effective leader. She has a delagative leadership style which slightly damages her ability to make decisions. Organizational Behavior Another aspect of leadership is the employment of power. Power is the ability to influence the actions and behaviors of others. Colquitt (2011) states an effective form of influence is

Adding onto the core values of a strong leader. A responsible leader in todays world must be an exemplary model of five key characteristics. Authenticity, vision, integrity, creativity and service. Authenticity, is imperative in that if you are authentic you are able to offer more of your self to servicing others. George, B., Sims, P., Mclean, A., and Mayer, D. (2007) in their titled work “Discovering Your Authentic Leadership” discussed knowing your authentic self and that one of the most important aspects of an authentic leader is self-awareness. “knowing their authentic selves requires the courage and honesty to open up and examine their experiences. As they do so, leaders become more humane and willing to be vulnerable” (George, B., Sims,
 The purpose of this paper is to identify and contrast the different styles of leadership exhibited by two characters found in the 1949 movie Twelve O’Clock High starring Gregory Peck as General Savage, Army Air Forces general. In the beginning of the movie the squadron is commanded by general Davenport. It is very clear that General Davenport’s

Perhaps one of the simplest definitions is by Maxwell who states that ‘Leadership is influence – nothing more, nothing less.’ Ruth Hassall also describes the three key things that leadership is about as: influence, role and ability; and states that ‘at its most basic, leadership is about influence’. Whilst there are various ramifications to leadership, both Maxwell and Hassall’s statements suggest
Management and leadership are two words that are considered synonymous but describe two different concepts. According to the dictionary, management is the act, manner, or practice of managing; handling, supervision, or control; leadership is the capacity or ability to lead. In many organizations, management is a job description; leadership is a positive trait. The purpose of this paper is to distinguish between the two, to look at the responsibilities that come with leadership, and make suggestions about creating and maintaining a healthy organizational culture.
Leadership is a term on which no one can develop a mutual consensus as it carries a different meaning for ach individual. Some people may consider a person as their leader who is capable of taking them away from hardships, some people may consider the one as their leader who is quite charismatic and can show them dreams of a bright future or some people may consider that man as a leader who can make them progress by devising wise strategies for them etc. There is, somehow, something very common in all the perspectives that are the philosophy behind the definition, which is related to choosing a best of the best person as their leader. “What do effective leaders do to remain effective?” was a question that I proposed to my Leadership Application Program Speakers Round Table Class. In response I received a number of answers from personality traits to emotional intelligence. Leadership is a word that can be defined in many different ways. The late David McClelland, a noted Harvard University psychologist, found that leaders with strengths in a critical mass of six or more emotional intelligence
When I first found out about the school's leadership program, I thought it was something I wanted to do. However, I almost did not apply for it. I filled out the application on the last day it was due and waited in anticipation for an answer. The leadership program has been a positive experience in my life. It has helped me to experience new things and change my way of thinking; it has helped me to become more direct, open and sincere; and it has introduced me to new, interesting, and wonderful people.
As our firm grows in revenue and size, opening new offices in other cities, the number of our employees have grown significantly and will continue to grow along with our business. This presents a challenge in our organization to find and raise leaders as well as improve our existing leadership to be more effective. To address this issue, we need to implement a Leadership Training Program that will train, educate, and encourage our managers to be more effective leaders in their departments, which will help raise employee’s morale and productivity. This proposal will include strategies that will improve our management’s ability to communicate with our employees, and self-reflection exercises that will develop our managers personally and improve their leadership skills.
