Educational History Interview I interviewed my 72-year-old grandma for my educational history interview. My grandmother attended Midway Elementary school for grades 1-8. Schooling was very different 60 years ago. The elementary teachers were strict. The students were expected to respect their elders, nonsense was not accepted, and obedience was a requirement. Slackers were not rewarded or given the same credit as those who work diligently. Students were not awarded solely for participation. Students were awarded for achievements. When a student misbehaved or was causing trouble and was threatened with having to go to the principal’s office that already meant you were in trouble. The students did not only get in trouble at school, but they would have harsh punishments latter at home, as well. The elementary school was a wood frame building with a bulky coal-fueled heater in the center of the room. The heater was maintained by the teacher. The students did not have a desk. They sat at wood tables with cubies in them. Students did not come to school with laptops or tablets. They had the basic materials to work with; they used paper and pencils. No electronic device of any kind was used during the class periods or during recess. Recess required strenuous physical activity. The games they played involved physical activity and mental activity. They taught the children team building qualities, and how to work with others to succeed in accomplishing a goal. The teachers taught
When I was a little girl, my grandma would always take me to her school with her and let me sit in on her classes throughout the day. I always begged her to let me go with her because I had loved getting to be there with her and getting to pretend that I too was a part of the class. Alvord Continuation High School was mainly composed of portable classrooms, the buildings were red and white spanish style buildings. The school my grandmother taught at was not a regular high school, this was a place where students over the age of sixteen were able to attend in order to finish school to obtain a high school diploma. The students she taught primarily looked a lot older than sixteen, they were adults trying to graduate to move on with their lives.
Education, the staple of every society and the hallmark of every first world country, it is a privilege granted to all equally within the United States. There may be variances in the actual level of education and even the amount of students who take advantage of the public school opportunity; still it is a general entitlement that this country provides to all. Within the promise of education, there is an implied right to the safety of the student and the faculty. These provided polls, taken from the Gallop Polling Agency, study this implied right of safety within reference to the concern of the parents for their children’s well being while at school and also that of the children for their own well being. Using these polls, I will discuss my interpretation of their results, the conclusions that I have come to due to my interpretation, and a few of the strengths and weaknesses that I’ve noticed through my examination of these polls.
They did it! They got that 4.0! Students all over are trying their best to get A’s in their classes and many of them succeed, but are these students actually remembering the information they learned after the class is over? Unfortunately the way students are encouraged to learn doesn’t really help in storing information in their long term memory. The educational system just might be setting students up for failure. Plummer and McCullough share their insights on the issues they have come to recognize while observing how people learn. They express some ways the education system has changed over the years. During this essay the readers are encouraged to think about what is necessary in their lives to obtain the best education possible. Both
The goal of education in the Greek city-states was to prepare the child for adult activities as a citizen. The goal for the Greeks was to find spiritual satisfaction in the ordinary everyday role. The goal of education in Sparta, an authoritarian, military city-state, was to produce soldier-citizens. The goal was to train these citizens to fight hard and protect one another. On the other hand, the goal of education in Athens, a democratic city-state, was to produce citizens trained in the arts of both peace and war.
Everyone would agree that education is a fundamental way of life. A means to learn something new. It’s intention is to mentally, physically, and emotionally benefit the person by putting them in a better place then they were previously in before. From the beginning of times people have relied and survived on past educators. There are many people that contribute to a individuals education. Starting off as a young child most of the information retrieved comes from home through parents, and loved ones. As they move into adolescents learning is obtained from multiple people including teachers, friends, and even through their surroundings. An ideal
As a result in 2013, about 19.9 million students were enrolled in colleges and universities in 2013, compared to 13.5 million in 1970, and 2.7 million in 1949 (US Census Bureau). One the first day of school in the third grade, as I proudly wore my navy blue polo uniform that wrote “Jotham W. Wakeman Public School Number 6” I was excited to go to back to school. There was just something I missed about the grey painted walls, the dark and empty cold rooms, and the indigestible school lunch. They called it a school, claimed to be treating the children like “ students” but we were treated as young juveniles. “Only speak when you are told to.” “ Everyone stand in a straight line now.” “ Do not slouch, sit up straight” “ class chores, every week everyone receives a chore” At such a young age I thought: was I receiving an education or a variety of punishments?
Throughout my time here at UW Green Bay, I have learned many things about my education and about myself. While I have learned that you can get a degree, and a job, by gliding your way through classes and applying no effort, I have acquired the belief that you get out of college what you put into it. I believe that if I apply myself and try to challenge myself I will be far more successful in my educational pursuits. Through this realization, I have learned the two most important lesson of all; fearing failure is a waste of energy, and anyone can make a difference in the world.
The history and progression of education. The meaning and purpose of education. How education is important. How education is set up. The differences of conformity vs oppression. The struggles with education. The oppression that happens with education. How certain groups are treated different and taught differently. These are the topics that were an interest out of the framework's class.
Education effects all aspects of our economy and in business. One way it effects the economy is the way people are able to make smart decisions in life. Without having an education they would make unwise choices in life when they try to do business with someone who has an education or they would make unwise choices about what to do with their money in life. I plan on showing how being more educated and having a better degree can help change the economy and businesses in a positive way.
Despite being interested in education, I was still a little kid who loved talking to her friends and playing tag at recess. My new school excelled at balancing school and fun. We were taught penmanship classes, math and science lessons, and computer skills courses, yet we were given opportunities

Rather than emphasizing on maintaining discipline in a classroom, classroom management would be more appropriate for an effective teacher. Discipline has two significant limitations such that discipline highlights the individual rather than the classroom and secondly it connotes negative behavior (352). Whereas classroom management is broadly defined as “all of those positive behaviors and decisions a teacher makes to facilitate the learning process of their students” also reiterating all of those “activities necessary to create and maintain an orderly learning environment” (352). The reason why creating an effective classroom management plan is essential is to create a positive and productive learning environment, be able to work and
