DOES TV HAVE A NEGATİVE İNFLUENCE ON SOCİETY
The negative effects of television are huge. To minimize the potential negative effects of television, it's important to understand what the impact of television can be on children.
Violence
Over the past two decades, hundreds of studies have examined how violent programming on TV affects children and young people. While a direct "cause and effect" link is difficult to establish, there is a growing consensus that some children may be vulnerable to violent images and messages.
Researchers have identified three potential responses to media violence in children: * Increased fear—also known as the "mean and scary world" syndrome
Children, particularly girls, are much more likely than adults to be

* Television watching also promotes lack of creativity and enhances passivity. The child shies away from mental and physical workout. * The sense of relaxation that kids feel while watching television diminishes completely when it is switched off. This makes them watch TV for longer periods of time and makes them addicted to it * Television viewing creates the concept of gender-role and racial stereotypes in children, as they start considering it as very natural phenomena. Heroic acts are expected out of males, while women are displayed as objects and less powerful. * For teens, television is a major source of information about sex. A survey conducted in 1997 by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that 61 per cent of young teens, ages 13-15, rated entertainment media as their top source of information on sexuality and sex health. This should concern parents because although two-thirds of TV shows contain sexual content, only one in ten includes any reference to safe sex or the consequences of unprotected sex. * The main focus of many teen dramas is sex, with each episode containing countless verbal and visual references to sexual activity. These highly sexualized portrayals of relationships bear little resemblance to the real lives of teens—and are generally not balanced by clear messages about safe and healthy attitudes towards sex.

In the article “TV’s Negative Influence on Kids Reaffirmed” by Jeffrey M. McCall, he addresses the issue of how TV has a negative influence on children. McCall states that young children and toddler’s cognitive ability do not develop as well when they have a television in the background while they are playing and interacting. McCall also argues that TV has a very influential role in the teenage pregnancy rate and how early teens become sexually active. To further prove his point, McCall proclaims that children and teens that are exposed to large amounts of television and video games become socially awkward and have issues interacting in society. McCall also says that the networks are rating their own programs carelessly, which is leading to shows that should be restricted by a V-chip being watched by children, rendering the restricting system null and void.
Television can affect learning and school performance if it exceeds the time kids need for their crucial for healthy physical and mental development. Most of children's free time, especially during the early development years, should be spent in activities such as playing, reading, exploring nature, learning about music or participating in sports. Research has shown that children's exposure to television during the preschool years is predictive of academic outcomes during adolescence. The most notable lesson about this
Yet, another thing about the media of television that has changed in the decades that it has been around is the promotion of sexuality and promiscuity. When television was till relatively young, sex was a taboo that was not to be talked about, touched on, or showing. Married couples had to be shown to have “separate beds to sleep in” (Sipe). Now, immorality has been shown in prime time slot with shows like Beverly Hills 90210, Spartacus, and especially
The average American teenager watches three hours of television a day. Scientist Rebecca Collins conducted a study to see if watching sexual behavior on TV influenced teenagers’ own behavior. In her results, she found that watching shows with sexual content has a considerable
Sexuality and sex in America is a complicated subject in that there is little consensus on the topic of sex in, and the American media sends many mixed messages regarding sex and sexuality to everyone, not just to adolescents. Americans are aware of sex primarily through advertising (print media, commercials, etc.) as sex is used to sell anything and everything. The media also bombards Americans with sexuality and sex on television and in films. The sexuality of teenagers is not a straightforward issue in America either. Many parents do not discuss sex or sexuality with their children. There have been ongoing debates as to whether sexuality should be taught as part of school curricula because there are such a great deal of adolescents participating in reckless and/or dangerous sexual behaviors, largely because they are grossly uneducated about sex. The paper will reference the film Juno and other texts as a meditation on the relationship between adolescent sexuality and the media.
Is television a force for good or evil in American society today. When a person is taught how to cook it's usually taught by a parent, when a person is taught how to solve a math problem it usually is taught by a teacher. With all the bad role models on tv it affects our kids in a evil way but to be honest there is some tv shows and movies that are educational, but if there is a celebrity that wears short skirts and does drugs. Then the kids will be taught that what they see on tv is alright to do.
For example Educational Shows,Sports, and Food Shows. Those what I will be writing about in why I believe TV influences Kids. It also educates, encourages, and keeps Kids healthy. The information about what I will be writing about will be listed in the following essay below. In the essay will contain the three things I think how TV influences us.
youth. It is scientifically proven that when children watch television for lengthy periods of time, it changes the anatomical structure of a child's brain and can cause some cases of verbal disabilities. While television can be educational, parents should regulate the amount of television their children watch because it shortens children's attention spans, it inhibits social interaction, and it is not always intellectually stimulating.
Research has shown that children are more prone to changing their behavior after watching certain tv shows. A study was done with a group of one hundred preschool kids at
Sex on TV and teen pregnancy. A total of 2,003 teens (ages 12 to 17 years) were asked how often they watched 23 popular TV shows that portrayed passionate kissing, sexual talk, and sexual intercourse. One to three years later they were interviewed again; 744 teens reported being sexually active. Those who watched the most TV shows with sexual content were two to three times more likely to become pregnant or to impregnate
Television does influence children, however parents have tremendous power to moderate that influence. Because there is a great deal of violence in both adult and children's programming, just limiting the number of hours children watch television will probably
The connection between the teens’ media exposure and teens’ risky sexual behavior have been examined throughout the years. The results of these studies conducted to examine how the exposure to mass media affect teens’ sexual behavior contradict. Teens’ romantic and sexual interests motivate them to seek for information from the media becoming exposed to television, music videos, movies and magazines six to eight hours each day (Steinberg & Monahan, 2011, p. 562). But “… media are saturated with sexual content and imagery, which appear in 83 percent of programs popular among adolescents …” (Ward, Day & Epstein, 2006, p. 57). Pettit (2003) & Pinkleton, Austin, Chen and Cohen (2012) and Fuller and Damico (2008) findings suggest that media messages potentially affect the way teens think about sex negatively. Whereas, Ward et al. (2006) suggest the effect is not always negative, and for Steinberg et al. (2011) there is no effect of mass media in teens’ sexuality. As for the inconsistency of the results, this research establishes the need of a future study on how to diminish the teens’ enjoyment of media to pursue further the possibility of making media less entertaining but educational. Results indicate teens’ exposure to mass media may or may not influence teens’ decisions about sex.
The accumulated evidence, however, does not warrant the conclusion that televised violence has a uniformly adverse effect nor the conclusion that it has an adverse effect on the majority of children. It cannot even be said that the majority of the children in the various studies we have reviewed showed an increase in aggressive behavior in response to the violent fare to which they were exposed. The evidence does indicate the televised violence may lead to increased aggressive behavior in certain subgroups of children who might constitute a small portion or substantial proportion of the total population of young television viewers. Television is known to be one of the most prevalent, pervasive and vexing icon, invading every corner of public and any private eye, shaping consciousness and defining reality, and entertaining the masses (Yarber and Sayad, 2013). TV and movies are being viewed nearly 5 hours a day by people of the age 8-18 years old. As the rates of television viewing as increased so has sexual content in programming and adult oriented shows. A major source of information on sex for teens comes from TV,
People who watch a lot of tv think that they are not harmed by the TV but this however is not true. Doctors who know what's good for people say that watching TV can cause a lot of harm to people since it can cause people to have behavior problems and can cause them to not feel well from their health. One way that TV can do more harmful things than good things is that it can cause people who watch a lot of TV to imitate bad behavior on TV. According to KidsHealth.org, it said that “TV
