Based on the CMS paper sample on page 84 of the text, I would say that a few of the differences between Chicago Manual Style and MLA format are the use of a title page, the use of marginal annotations, and the format of the citations. While MLA format is typically used for people writing in the humanities fields, Chicago Manual Style is mainly written in the history field. In this sample, a title page is used. In MLA format a title page is not required, though, it can sometimes be included if requested. MLA format included in-text citations, not marginal annotations. Lastly, the citation format of the CMS format is unique, making some citations very long and some very short.
When comparing the CMS format in the paper to my knowledge of the APA format, I feel that the differences are mostly found in the way that the citations are formatted. To start off, APA format, as discussed in previous forums, is mainly used in the social science fields. In the CMS paper, the specific page range from which the writer got their information from is given, while in the book's sample APA

As seen in the sample paper, the use of numbered citations allows reader to focus in on the actual content of the paper, and avoids the constant reuse of the source creator’s last name and page number. While this is similar to the CSE format, the CMS format differs from CSE by not directing their writing towards a very specific audience. The CSE sample paper used very high-level diction, which implied that they expected their readers to already have an idea of what the paper’s topic was about. The CMS sample paper uses more lower-level diction, which allows for a broader audience to be able to read and understand the content of the paper. I feel like the less focused audience range and the strong analysis of the CSE sample paper is its biggest
Using this standard format will allow our readers to focus on our ideas instead being distracted by unfamiliar text and formats. I think the format shows that you are aware of your audience and helps establish your credibility. It also provides guidelines and protects against plagiarism.
The last writing project I did was an Argumentative. I choose to write and argue about the television and its effects on children. What the consequences are on playing violent/aggressive video games in young ages. Using credible sources and prove by evidence I could convince my reader about my opinion. In this paper I had to be fare and show both sides of the subject to give the reader a reliable opinion. The most important thing I learned was how to use all the sources and present them in the text. Using MLA format was something new and different for me. I realized the importance of presenting the sources in the correct format to keep the high credibility in my paper. I also understood that the MLA-format is very useful for paraphrasing, summarizing and quoting in my text.
Biv - Describe the procedure to follow if you wanted to raise a grievance at work. You may describe this in writing or produce a flow chart or diagram.
Before attending GCU and using the sources that they provide, I normally would use resources and tools that were provided by various universities. Two notable examples that I would use where Purdue University's OWL and also Calvin College's KnightCite. OWL is a particularly helpful source since it offers a wide variety of articles regarding various topics that play a key role within successful writing. KnightCite was also a source I widely used because of the fact that it was a great way in order to get MLA (which I used in high school) citations for works used in my papers. However, nowadays I mainly use the sources provided by GCU such as the writing center which I have found to be quite helpful. In particular, I enjoy the templates provided
1 inch margins, 10 or 12 Times New Roman font, cite references appropriately in text (direct quote versus paraphrasing), appropriate structure of the reference page, sentence structure
In English 111, the citation style taught to students is the MLA format, whereas in Humanities courses a student will use APA formatting style for papers. This was difficult for me to remember the differences between the two styles. I became so accustomed to implying the MLA citation skills on papers that when I needed to turn in a paper for my Humanities I had to focus and be aware of the APA formatting styles and not employee the MLA

I didn’t get the University of Chicago welcome letter that made the rounds on the internet earlier this summer. I’m a senior this year, and the message from Jay Ellison, the dean of undergraduate students, was for the incoming class: Don’t expect trigger warnings or safe spaces here. The university, he said, was committed to free expression and would not shield students from ideas they disagreed with or found offensive.
The difference with APA style is that it adds to MLA by including a date to go along with the authors name and the page number. Dates are important when it comes to APA citations because this type of citing deals with social sciences and it helps demonstrate the newness of the work being cited. The newer the information or statistics when it comes to science usually means it is more credible. An example of this type of citation would be:
It was curiosity, and a recommendation from an upper classman, that brought me to the Engage Chicago informational meeting. When I first walked in, I did not know what to expect. I only knew that over the summer, I wanted to do something that involved helping people and making a difference in the community as well as stepping out of my comfort zone and exploring new experiences. Engage Chicago provides a perfect opportunity to achieve my goals for the summer. There is a wide range of nonprofit organizations students can choose to apply and intern at, depending on each individual interests. From programing at a local YMCA to assisting at a pediatric cancer center, there are countless hands
MLA style also specifies guidelines for formatting manuscripts and using the English language in writing and also provides a writers with a system for cross-referencing their sources--from their parenthetical references to their works cited page. This cross-referencing system allows readers to locate the publication information of source material. This is of great value for researchers who may want to locate your sources for their own research projects. The proper use of MLA style also shows the credibility of writers; such writers show accountability to their source material. Most importantly, the use of MLA style can protect writers from accusations of plagiarism--the purposeful or accidental use of source material by other writers
Throughout this semester, I have learned multiple issues concerning my English 1301 online class. I have learned various writing techniques and peculiarities of MLA, APA formatting, citation norms, and an accurate use of sources. After taking this class, I am pleased to say that now I can not only differentiate MLA and APA formats, but also write papers using them.
Sunday mornings at House of Blues Chicago are different from most music venues. The House of Blues holds Kirk Franklin’s Gospel Brunch. The inside of the House of Blues is amazing. The lobby walls are filled with famous musicians portraits and American Art. They start opening up the morning by asking questions about the history of the venue. The first House of Blues opened in Cambridge, Massachusetts in 1992. The venues goal is to serve the community while bringing music to the community. They feed the homeless on Thanksgiving Day before opening to the public, and they support local artist, and display their art around the building. In House of Blues Chicago, there are three floors. The restaurant, which is on the first floor. The stage, which
