According to the Texas, Nurse Practitioner can be well defined as a registered nurse who has advanced education and clinical training in a specialty area. Texas is more thorough and complete than the other states according to my own individual research. Board Rule 221 requires that one identifies the advanced practice role and population focus area for which you have been licensed as an advanced practice registered nurse by the Texas Board of Nursing.
There are different types of technology that is used by medical assistants which also depends on which type of office one is working in. If it is an administrative medical assistant they will use the computer, a fax machine, printer, the telephone if they are mainly in the office. If it is a clinical medical assistant then they will be more than likely working in a medical setting. In the process of checking a patient’s blood pressure they will use an electronic blood pressure monitor if a manual one is not at their disposal. Another piece of equipment that a medical assistant may use would be a high frequency ultrasound machine. They will also use electrocardiograph equipment to check a patient’s heartbeat pattern. The apparel requirements for a medical assistant are scrubs and closed toed shoes. “The majority of medical assistant positions require you to wear scrubs” (Career Gear). Training and development opportunities are important in many areas especially in the healthcare field. Being that I worked as a Certified Nurse Assistant for over 20 years, I can name just off the top of my head why training and development is important. Training and development opportunities is important because if an employee(s) is working with a patient that has multiple tubing inserts into their body, patient may be bed-written and must be turned every two hours or PRN, if a patient has a sign on their door that reads as follows “NPO” after 12 midnight or if a patient wanders off, what needs to be done to that patients upon contacting the nurse. I listed a few things above that requires proper training and development opportunities in the healthcare field working as a Certified Nurse Assistant that is mandatory and needs special attention to.
