The career portfolio is important to me because it creates an advantage for me when I am applying for new jobs. Career ladder, according me, is important when I am planning my future in one organization only. Currently I'm looking for new opportunities so I will choose career portfolio over career ladder but once I will find that opportunity, I will start working on my career ladder as my progress in the same organization. The twenty-first century is the age of information. The more you learn the better you understand the world. My goal is to help in the creation of the safe and equal community where everyone is comfortable. For Millennial making an impact on the community is a huge factor. 67% of new candidates choose to work for the government to make a positive impact on the community (Hilvert, C., Ibarra, P., Swindell, D., & Thoreson, K., 2015). Since I enjoy intensification of my knowledge to understand myself and others. I choose to develop a career portfolio. Staying in one organization for my entire career is not for me. I want to prepare for anything and staying in one organization won't serve me

There comes a time in life where individuals have to leave school to join the world of work whereby they will work their way up to the top. This is where career development comes into place. My life has been impacted immensely through my experience as a lifeguard and swimming instructor for the City of Ottawa. I have had a passion for aquatics ever since I was a young child, and remained committed towards my goal of completing various courses and certifications in order to obtain the lifeguard and swimming instructor position that I hold now. I work approximately thirteen hours a week at this job, on top of the hours I commit to my two other jobs. Aside from my paid employment, I have learned to manage my time effectively in order to participate in numerous extracurricular activities, as well as to maintain strong academic performance. As a swimming instructor, I am expected to prepare weekly and long range lesson plans for the
I have had many experiences that have made me who I am today. I began my education at the Pomona Kindergarten Learning Center, and then the Reeds Road Elementary School. This set the foundation for me to be a good student, and to serve my community. As I moved onto the Galloway Township Middle School, I tried many activities such as band, cross country, and the Think Day Team. In these activities, I made new friends and continued to learn about the world and how to become a better person. The scope of my life experiences broadened as I entered high school. I was surrounded by mostly new people and a different environment. I joined the academic team and math club and discovered more about what I like to do. Outside of school, I took on a job,
In recent years, there has been growing pressure for school districts to ensure that students graduate college and career ready. Moreover, educational laws now require schools to offer career guidance to their students. As a result, school leaders are utilizing a series of assessment tools to identify students’ interest and prepare them for a global society. According to Timmons, Podmostko, Bremer, Lavin, and Wills (2004), career interest inventories are designed to assist students in recognizing their predominant interests and preferences. In addition, they allow students to identify areas of strength as well as areas that may need improvement. Hulleman and Harackiewicz (2009) maintain that career assessments help low-performing students achieve

What is the first thing that you will grab if your building catches on fire? Well, let make up a scene. You in your house and you are getting ready to leave your house when all of a sudden you hear a lot of people yelling fire, fire, fire. Of course, you start to panic but then you check outside your apartment and then you smell that heavy air in your lungs. However, you begin to think of what is something you will take out of your home.Well, is it not a folder or a bookbag full of important things. Of course, we don’t want to be in that situation, but when you think about it isn’t a portfolio needed and it important. Well in that same matter having an academic portfolio is, in fact, important. An academic portfolio presents our best work
I started my first career with Old Dutch Foods in 1990 as an owner operator. My responsibilities included: merchandising, delivering product to stores, and ensuring proper rotation of an assortment of premium products. I successfully grew the business from an estimated $450,000 per year to over a million by the time I had left. My route quickly became one of the largest in Canada, and helped me learn the valued set of skills I have today. I Learned to build relationships with my customers and found innovative ways to market our products. In those days I worked with my father shoulder to shoulder as a business partner, and if it were not for his passing in 1997, I would probably have remained with the company. After my father passed away, I

The purpose of a career map is to allow you to organize your strengths and weaknesses associated to a specific career. In doing so, you are essentially outlining the needed information that a career may entail which allows you to do things in a timely matter. In addition, by doing things in a timely matter, you are staying on plan with a path you have created for yourself and improving the chances of you being successful. If you map out your pan and find that most of the unique skills needed is not something you have acquired, you can better prepare for alternatives.

While researching on my chosen career path, I have noted expected growth in areas of Human Resources, and will attempt to place myself into those thriving roles by developing a long-term plan. As the economy fluctuates, the market for HR professionals will feel the adverse effect of downsizing & job expansion. The additional growth of technology is planned to change the job role on all career roles. And should be noted as a concern for this career path along with many other internal roles. With the continued growth of technological innovation we can expect increase in job efficiency, while experiencing a simultaneous drop in the needed personal of a company, as automation increases employees efficacy. In the current prediction model it is
In 1980, Donald Super introduced a theory that described career development in terms of life stages and life roles. Super was one of the first theorists to discuss the constantly evolving nature of career development, and the importance of finding a balance between career and personal life. Super’s developmental model emphasized how personal experiences interact with occupational preferences in creating one’s self-concept. Super discussed how each of us progress through various life and career development stages, including growth, exploration, establishment, maintenance, and disengagement. He also discussed that each of us take on different roles as we go through life, such as a child, student, leisurite, citizen, worker, parent, and spouse. Each of these roles has an impact on our personal and professional development, and on our work/life balance. Finally, his “archway” of career determinants detailed how both personality characteristics (intelligence, needs, values) and societal characteristics (labor market, school, family) influence our career choices and have a major impact on our career development.
Careers are sometimes as fleeting as the dreams that encompass them. Often, individuals, in search of a career dream of financial security, the ability to purchase a dream home, or obtaining material possessions that may showcase their wealth or status. There is no lack of ambition and fortitude within individuals in this regard. We all want to achieve success is some form or another. We all aspire for greatness, albeit in varying degrees and capacities. What is lacking however is a concrete method in which to achieve ones desired financial and career goals. The Bureau of Labor Statistics in a recent report indicated that individuals change careers approximately 11 times during their lifetime. Why do people change so often? Many explanations currently exist. The changing global economy is creating demand for other skills that were previously unwarranted. Many jobs are becoming obsolete as they are either replaced or outsourced overseas. Many jobs are cyclical in nature and thus are only needed during periods of economic euphoria or expansion. No matter what the theory is however, one constant will always remain. Individuals need to utilize their talents and skillsets to maximize their earnings potential. One such talent is that of leadership. Leadership is ubiquitous. It is needed in almost any industry within every geographic location on Earth. No area on Earth is exempt from the need for leadership. In order to cultivate and develop my leadership skills, a tactical plan is
Career progression is the aim for most workers, but career development is not something most of us think regularly. But without proper understanding of what we want from our career and how we can achieve our goals quicker, we can quickly end up dissatisfied with our jobs.
