Running head: CAREER INVESTIGATION ASSIGNMENT Career Investigation Assignment: My Ideal Career Stephanie Culver Davenport University FRSM100 Career and Education Seminar Introduction My ideal career is in accounting. I have determined that this field is best suited for me through career assessment tests, learning styles assessments and by actually working in this field for several years. I have been interested in accounting since taking my first accounting class in high school. It was then that I found that not only was I good at bookkeeping but also enjoyed it. From my Learning Style Graph (Toft, 2006) I discovered that I equally reflect two learning styles: “Why? mode” and “What if? mode.” My knack …show more content…
In an entry level position at a public accounting firm the skill set I have already acquired will be very useful. My experience in bookkeeping as an accounting assistant at present will help prepare me for the data entry assignments usually associated with entry level positions. As my position progresses within the firm, I will be relying more on the knowledge I learn while earning my degree. One of the advantages to being a CPA within a large firm is that you have the opportunity to work in many areas of accounting for many varied company clients. This will give me a multifaceted experience level not easily obtained while working independently or for a smaller firm. I hope to have the opportunity to do some forensic accounting work where I would prove suspected embezzlement within a client’s company (S. Westfield, personal interview, August 1, 2008). Some of the most prevalent disadvantages to an occupation in this field are the hours necessary. As a CPA with a large accounting firm I would expect a typical work week of 40 to 50 hours. But, during the tax season, January through April, it could be as many as 70 hours per week (S. Westfield, personal interview, August 1, 2008). Since I have already been employed within the accounting industry for some time now, my family and I are used to the long hours and fluctuation during busy times. I am considering seeking employment opportunities at several local companies. One such company
When I was young I wanted to become a teacher; however, that all changed throughout the years. What had motivated me to become a teacher was all the supplies they had like the whiteboards, the markers, and the construction paper. It seemed fun and interesting to me to have all the supplies. I no longer wish to become a teacher. As I grew older I realized that I wanted to do something that has me going to places, seeing new things, speaking with diverse individuals, and for that reason I chose to be involved in Real estate.
The career I chose to undertake as my profession is that of a mechanical engineer. Why do I want to become a mechanical engineer? Well, for starters, I would be able to design, build and possibly repair many various machines and other technologies that are complex. These technologies can range from being already in use on a global scale to new, futuristic designs that are highly technical. Also, this career includes being a sort of jack-of-all-trades, where I would possess knowledge in mathematics, physics, etc. Finally, this career offers me the chance to expand outside my immediate area since mechanical engineers are well desired around the globe as well.
“I feel sorry for the person who can't get genuinely excited about his work. Not only will he never be satisfied, but he will never achieve anything worthwhile” (Walter Chrysler). Deciding on what one wants to be in life can prove to be a demanding task. There are so many, yet limited, different opportunities in the world to have an excellent career and make a decent living while doing something one loves. It is limited because there are only a few specific career paths that someone could take to make good money. It is very difficult to make a fulfilling living being a garbage man. There are many different opportunities because, within these specific careers, there are usually various paths to take. Someone who has dreams to be a
All learners have different learning styles. Using materials at the initial stage of the learning process can highlight preferred styles. Honey and Mumford show four learning styles – activists, theorists, reflectors and pragmatists, while VAK highlights visual, auditory and kinaesthetic preferences.
It’s important for me to identify my ‘Learning Style’ because it maximises my own personal learning; Honey and Mumford states ‘’each learner ought to understand their learning style and seek out opportunities to learn using that style’’ to do this. I’d say I’m very particular about the way I go about learning and I am not entirely open-minded in my approach to
I plan to pursue a graduate degree and earn my master’s in accounting. I think if I gain enough experience in the field, I could build my earning potential in the long run. Also, I would still be able to branch out and explore others options if my interests ever change.
What is next? Is the question that haunts adolescents throughout high school and college. Therefore, today I will offer information on possible job opportunities in a few foreign countries. Given the nature of this paper, the audience who find it useful will be limited; furthermore, this essay is designed to provide young Americans who are considering searching for employment overseas in Europe. Gross Domestic Product (GDP), “is the best way to measure a country's economy. GDP is the total value of everything produced by all the people and companies in the country” (Amadeo), so naturally GDP seemed to be the best choice for determining my countries of focus. I am going to talk about the two countries with the highest GDP out of the
Realizing the career that would be right for me. Would likely be a private/criminal investigator. Seeing that I am motivated and committed for a job like this it can become a widely problem-solving, communicational career for me. I’m willing to use my skills to help others in need in the criminal field. Pursuing this career it would allow me to always have something exciting happen daily and always be on my toes. Therefore, this is something that interests me a lot and I know it would be fun for me. As a private investigator, it requires much of schooling, ways to make sure you are a problem solver, and helping people with their cases of criminals and more that can get away from the trouble they had caused.
Since Accounting is so hands on I believe experience shadowing or working with other accountants would help me, because I would get to see how the accounting system works when everything isn’t in proper order or some financials are missing. I consider that experience invaluable because it teaches me what I can not learn in a classroom and helps expand my knowledge in that field
Learning styles and barriers to learning can be by the VARK to give a profile of learning preferences of how a person takes in and gives out information or Tidwell and Rodgers Practical learning styles Questionnaire. There are many other

Geneticists are biologists that study genetics; the science of genes. Genes are the basic information units through which genetic information is maintained and transmitted. Information contained in genes underpins the hereditary phenotypic variation of organisms as well as any abnormalities passed on to the next generation.
The field of accounting is no longer just for those who enjoy crunching numbers. Preparing financial statements, internal auditing, and tax accounting are only the tip of the iceberg. In today 's society of the "money hungry", the "sue happy", and the financially unfit, a new breed of accountant; the "Forensic Accountant" has emerged. Although Investigative Accounting has been around for years, it has only recently begun to transform into the science of accounting, hence Forensic Accounting. Forensic accountants are unique, looking beyond the numbers, digging deep to uncover fraud, hidden assets, and the like.
What draws me into the field of accountancy? Why do I want to launch a career as a certified public accountant (CPA)? What is there about numbers, spreadsheets, profit and loss statements, audits, inventory and fiduciary responsibility that appeal me? How available are job openings for a person with the education and experience to work as a CPA? How well to companies compensate those hired as CPAs? Accounting skills are useful for companies and individuals who are trying to maximize their profits and maintain a competitive advantage, but forensic accounting can help bring justice and peace of mind for many others by illuminating financial processes that can help explain criminal actions and behaviors. This essay will describe each one of these traits and describe its application to business operations. Next the essay will describe the role of the forensic accountant within a courtroom environment and then also discuss the legal responsibilities that these professionals have to obey in the course of their work. Finally this essay will highlight two real world cases where forensic accounting provided vital evidence in a legal court case.
