It is extremely important to understand the direction and the stability of the environment that we try to get in. This environment consists of socio-cultural, political, economical, legal and government traits.
Awareness of social and cultural norms has helped major multinational companies such as Coca-Cola, IBM, Marlboro and Pepsi succeed in being recognized as truly international brands. (Paul Gibbs, 1992)
In this assignment, we aim to investigate in which extent an organisation must appreciate cultural differences before entering a market.
For that, we chose Tesco a very well established multinational company. Our goal is to expand Tesco’s operations in Greece.

Tesco is one of Britain’s leading food retailers and has 586 stores. From 1992, Tesco has grown greatly and has increased its market share from 10.4% to 15.2%. This increase in customers has also given Tesco a large amount of profit.
Tesco has 164500 shareholders and its profit is about 505 million pounds after the tax has been deducted. Fifty per cent of its profit is distributed to the shareholders as dividends and the rest is held back for investment in stores and improving services for the customers.

Tesco is the Public Limited Company I will explore. To understand the size of Tesco, it has stores in 12 countries across Asia and Europe. There is a sum of 3739 Tesco stores within the UK (as of 2017). They also have 460,000 Colleagues at the end of 2016. This shows the size of Tesco and gets us to understand the effect that Tesco has on the UK’s economy and needs and goods of UK’s communities.
Tesco is worldwide organisation which is well known in providing services to their customers, the organisation is been operating since the early 1924 providing services to consumers.

The company’s key competitors include Tesco and Asda. Tesco has been the market leader in the UK supermarket segment for several years, with a market share of 29.1% in 2015. On the other hand, Asda has been giving tough competition to Sainsbury’s, with a market share of 16.8%. Sainsbury’s which was in the third position for a long time, managed to get past Asda in 2015.
Tesco is British transnational corporation and in the same time the largest retail chain in the UK, where company manages more that 2700 shopping centers. The headquarter of the Tesco is situated in the city Cheshunt, Hertfordshire.
Having identified culture using existing theory, the author will interpret it in relation to product adaptation. This entails a clear understanding of what basics assumptions are and in terms of the use of two cultural frameworks. The first framework is Hofstede’s five cultural dimensions; he presents five cultural dimensions which are considered relevant for understanding the influence of culture on international marketing, including adaptation.
