Best things about the program There are many great aspects about the COMEA House. One of the best things about the program is that they are able to house many people, especially men, as this this is the greatest population of homeless individuals in Cheyenne. They also have a designated space for families. This is a great aspect of the COMEA House, as many mothers with children may feel that they do not have a safe place to go. However, COMEA House provides a safe place for them to stay, away from the general homeless population, to ensure extra comfort and safety. Not only is the COMEA House able to provide shelter to so many individuals, they are also able to feed a great number of people. Individuals do not have to be staying the COMEA House to get a meal there. Anyone can come and eat there, all they have to do is pass a breathalyzer test before entering the facility. Another great aspect of the COMEA House is that they work with each individual to get them moving toward independence and self-sufficiency. They also offer extended stays to individuals who are working toward independence, but may need a little more time and assistance in order to maintain successful living when they leave.
Informing theories The COMEA House uses two primary theories. The first is the Person In Environment theory. This theory stresses the importance of having a non-judgmental and empathic relationship when working with other individuals……. The second theory that is
In all, Habitat for Humanity is doing a wonderful service for the unfortunate people that just need a home to get back onto their feet. If I were to give to the unfortunate, I would not expect anything in return. That is why I would choose Habitat for Humanity for
A halfway house that is fully functioning offers several pros and cons to nearby neighborhoods. It calculating present can be defined in social and financial terms. However, I would not support a half-way house being opened in my neighborhood. In order for one to understand my point of view and meaning of half-way houses, I must first dissect how these dwellings can support or oppose a community lifestyle. One major concern of a half-way house being opened in a neighborhood is safe. When a halfway house is located in a surrounding area there is a chance of insecurity among potential homeowners. Half-way houses provide a place of residence for individuals that have or struggled with major problems including mental illnesses or drug abuse. This
The number of chronic homeless individuals has dropped 30 percent from 2007 to 2014. Despite that, still about 15% of homeless people are mentally ill (“Chronic Homelessness – Overview”). An example of the effects of hospitality for this cause is the Carriage House. The Carriage House is a clubhouse in Indiana that assists those who are recovering from mental illnesses. Workers at the house provide these individuals with prepared meals, help with Medicaid billings, and with education in hopes that they can acquire a job. The executive director of this facility said, “We’re trying to change the face of mental illness in the whole world.” Programs like this one are a step in the right direction to achieve that goal, but if more people can assist these individuals with the appropriate help, there is no reason for why that goal cannot be met. With all these causes of homelessness in the United States, surely there is something the public can help
was developed by the Skid Row Housing Trust with the intention of fighting homelessness with a holistic model to break the cycle of homeless. This particular organization inhabits the complexes with qualified individuals to connect residents with on-site case management, medical care, mental health services, substance use treatment, advocacy and community building (Skid Row Housing Trust, n.d.). If women have a house and bills to pay in order to keep the household they established intact and running they will stay out of trouble to maintain that goal of ownership and belonging. “Housing reduced the odds of recidivism by 83% (Weiss et al., 2010, p.260). By providing a place where women can live at least until they get on their feet and have a stable source of income will help them tremendously. Under the circumstances that they must undergo any treatment options recommended. Also they must acquire any other help to better themselves.
The goal is to help individuals gain and keep permanent housing. In addition, it will also offer an In-House Recovery Program, which is dedicated to helping free individuals from substance abuse.
Even though 27,000 square miles is a large area to build houses, the lack of utilities, access to roads, internet connection, and land ownership issues affects the process of building poverty on their land. There were some issues with where the money was going. Among these challenges, The NHA- Navajo Housing Authority was building in New Mexico, Arizona, and Utah where there are different policies they have to follow. In order to own a property these policies have to be followed with the different jurisdictions the tribe had a high unemployment and poverty rates. 49 percent of the Navajo nation household incomes have less than $25,000 which means that $7,500 a year or $ 625 a month for most of them can qualify

The Veterans Community Project was started by three veterans. In addition to housing, the Veterans Community Project will also provide people with counseling. Additionally, the houses will already have food, electricity and gas. They want to make sure that veterans do not have to go through the hassle of making deposits and waiting to get utilities turned on. The veterans will continue to get support until they can move into
This agency that you describe appears to provide services that reflect their chosen name. Homelessness in women with children, as you have mentioned make up one of the most vulnerable populations in this country; additionally, they are predisposed to many unfavorable events, such as inadequate health, injuries, drug addiction, and mental issues (Stanhope & Lancaster, 2016). Agencies like the one you describe, help lessen the effects of homelessness; additionally, providing a sense hope, unity, and pathway to
S263). This test is “11 questions in the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Module” and was issued on a scale of one to eight (Montgomery et al. S263). Another test conducted by a different team was used on a scale of either affective or psychotic and it was called the IES-R (Helfrich et al. 119). Both testing groups decided that housing and constant therapeutic sessions were key into reintroducing people to society. The most difficult problem with their conclusions is the aspect of housing. Housing First is one of the many healthcare and housing organizations to yield multiple aids for the homeless and mentally ill (Somers et al. 1). These aids consist of sustainable market housing without the requirement of a lease (Somers et al. 1). “Our findings confirm that HF programs- particularly the ones using scattered site format- promote reductions in offending and reconviction among people who were previously homeless and have a current mental illness ” (Somers et al. 6). By using a “scattered site format,” the organization chose a random sample that pulled many subjects from the streets and put them through the HF program. This was one of the first real solutions shown in reintroducing the once homeless into society. Haven for Hope homeless shelter is centered on returning the homeless and mentally ill to community. They have plans on renovating one of the male housings into a psychiatric facility with rooms for the residents
The McKinney-Vento Housing Assistance Act impact homeless student and parents in a positive way. The McKinney-Vento Homeless Assistance Act provides provisions for the homeless population and to school districts to alleviate some of the effects of homelessness on school age children and families. The Act removes barriers to help homeless children enroll and attend school of origin. Next, the Act provides a stable school environment when they have unstable living conditions. At school students have consistent routines, they are provided their own desk where they could have a sense of stability and space to put their school materials (thicks25digitalmuseum.com). When children are at school they have the opportunity to eat a balance
According to C. Joannides (personal communication, April 6, 2016), the hardest population to reach are the homeless individuals who like living the transient life; they do not want to stay in one place too long. Consequently, these individuals are not a good fit for the majority of services offered by the COMEA House as their purpose is to help individuals recover from any substance abuse issues and transition to independent living. The individuals who like to stay transient may take advantage of a meal and/or one night in the shelter, but not much more than that.
Each year they save more than 600 households from being homeless. They keep them in their homes and out of city shelters. They believe that the best way to reduce homelessness is to ultimately prevent it in the first place. By keeping families in their homes taxpayers saved $38,000 per year in shelter costs. “The Coalition is one of the only organizations offering citywide eviction prevention intake, and one of only a handful with consistent funding for grants.”
