The term 'autism' covers a wide spectrum of conditions that are related in that it refers to a neurological condition that affects developmental abilities. People with this disorder normally exhibit difficulty in communicating and interacting with others as well as displaying uncommon behavioral patterns, interests or activities. This wide spectrum of conditions make the treatments for autism very challenging. This spectrum of characteristics can vary quite a lot from individual to individual. In the more severe cases, the autistic person may appear to be locked in his own world and may even display aggressive behaviors. However, in most normal cases, the autistic person can adapt and function quite well in his social environment. Treatment …show more content…
Possibly due to the fact that each individual patient is unique, the results vary and so there is some debate over what kind of treatment offers the best results. For example, some may opt for an Applied Behavioral Analysis which involves employing a trained person to work on a one-to-one basis with the autistic individual for up to 40 hours a week and can be costly. On the other hand, there is the Intensive Behavioral Intervention which can work on a one-to-one basis or to small groups. Before pursuing any particular method it is recommended that parents or caregivers research thoroughly the credited results of the various treatment options. The Autism Society of America encourages parents to trust their instincts and proceed thoughtfully especially in the most severe cases of autism. The choices they make can affect the development of the autistic child and may dramatically affect his life as an adult in the future. Hence, parents or caregivers should carefully and thoroughly consider all treatment options available before making a decision on one. In the search for a treatment that will help someone with autism, it is important to remember that no one idea will cover all the bases. A parent or primary caregiver will come to know through observation what are the child's strengths and weaknesses. These observations can then be used in conjunction with some treatment options to create a treatment program that is unique and specific to the child's needs. Whatever the decisions are, it will require a strong determination to stay focused, persistent and consistent. This may also mean cultivating patience as results may come slowly at
Autism is a form of neurodevelopment disorder in the autism spectrum disorders. It is characterized by impaired development in social interactions and communication, both verbal and non-verbal. There is an observed lack of spontaneous acts of communication; both receptive and expressed, as well as speech impairments. A person diagnosed with Autism will also show a limited range of activities and interests, as well as forming and maintain peer relationships. The individuals will display limited interests, which are often very focused and repetitive. He or she is likely to be very routine oriented and may show behavioral symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity, aggressiveness, and self-injurious behaviors.
Autistic children should feel motivated and should be able to achieve different goals by being provided with various interventions as an individual and his or her support group. Children that are diagnosed with autism should get early intervention as early as possible in order to get better results by knowing the age group the autistic child is in the more intense the program can feel by the amount of hours that are being offered for the ASD child. The more hours the more change and improvement the parents and the child care center will see from the child with autism. When working with children that have autism there are many different ways to approach to the child so the child feels
Autism is a developmental disability caused by neurological dysfunction. It affects the way a person understands and responds to the world, how they hear, see, feel, sense, perceive and interpret everything around them. This may affect how they eat, sleep, dress, work, spend leisure time etc. They are likely to have repetitive behaviour
Autism is a disability that can create a barrier between the individual and his or her friends, family, and community. This disability often interferes with an individual’s ability to communicate, interact with others, engage in play or leisure skills, and to relate to the world around them. People with autism may exhibit repetitive movements, have unusual responses to people, be resistant to change and demonstrate aggressive and/or self-injurious behavior.
Autism Spectrum Disorder has a wide variety of treatment choices. There is not a single treatment that will cure ASD, but there are many therapies that can be used to help the symptoms of ASD. Above are multiple different therapies that experts have conducted research on. Interviews of educators in the field of special education and surveys answered by the general public were conducted to gather information regarding ASD knowledge and therapies. Educators informed about even more therapies that are used within schools. It became apparent that many therapies are used for children with ASD, and this is because autism is a spectrum disorder. The word "spectrum" often measures as something that ranges. ASD ranges for
This is why it is important that parents become trained in ABA. However, it is important that parents do not think that one approach will solve any child 's autism difficulties. The idea of using a “cookbook recipe” to fix their child is something that must be thrown out the window and techniques that encourage parents to become educated about the broadness of autism should be used. This includes learning how their child functions and ways to help design a ABA for their child rather than basing it off of statistics (Dillenburger et al.,2004).
Just as Autism has many different types and variations, so does the methods of treating it. Objective scientific studies have confirmed the benefits of two methods of comprehensive behavioral early intervention. They are the Lovaas Model based on Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and the Early Start Denver Model. Parents and therapists also report success with other commonly used behavioral therapies, including Floortime, Pivotal Response Therapy and Verbal Behavior Therapy. (Autism Speaks, 2017)
Parents of two children are searching for treatments to help their autistic children who can 't communicate their feels or needs. They have tried many therapies conventional or unconventional and all they want is to treat their children to live an independent life. Autism is a mysterious disorder for the great doctors who have found cure for many other mysterious diseases. Researchers don 't know the cause each child to behave differently from others with the same disorder or how to treat the best that doesn’t more problems to the children with the disorder.
"What is autism" is an article I found on the Autism Speaks website, an organization founded in Feb 2005 by Rob and Suzanne Right, the grandparents of an autist individuals. This website is dedicated to advancing research into causes and better treatments option for individual on the autism spectrum disorder. In this article, they cover many different treatments and support options for those on the spectrum. Autism Speaks stated that the autism spectrum disorder affects everyone differently and that treatment should be based on their challenges and strengths. Autism Speaks identified behavioral therapy
Individuals with autism demonstrate delays or deficits in social interaction and behaviours. Autism is apparent from early childhood, but can emerge in early adulthood. It is associated with a wide range of possible causes, but genetic factors are the main causes. Children with autism have impairments in cognition, language delays, and lack of or poor social interactions. Lack of communication may force these children to adopt repetitive behaviours such as self-inflicted injuries and violence. The teaching process requires interventions that address the repetitive behaviours, skill development, and play
Being a parent of any child with Autism is a challenge along with being a life-changing experience. The parents want to understand and find different techniques to help their child live a comfortable and normal life will dealing with their disability. Therefore, they are willing to try different techniques some of them which have been proven to work and others which has no evidence of decreasing the affects and/or behaviors of the child’s disability. Regardless of the evidence of treatment for unproven techniques, many parents believe that any and all treatment is better than no treatment. The unproven treatments includes changes in a diet, immune and hormone treatment, removal of toxin, vitamins and etc. Unfortunately, these unproven treatments
Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is known as a neurodevelopmental disorder that is capable of weakening communication, behavior and socialization. The term ASD includes three major subtypes which is Autism Spectrum Disorder, Pervasive Developmental Disorder and Asperger’s Disorder. About 9.0 in 1000 children have ASD and certain types of autism might not be identified until three years of life. The probability of boys being diagnosed is higher compared to girls (Bravaccio et al. 2013). Autism is not curable, but it can be controlled using certain type of treatments as there is no specific or one treatment for autism. The question that arises for this literature review, if the treatment used for autism is effective?
Some people with autism are unaware of what is socially appropriate, and find that chatting and small talk are difficult. People with autism may appear uninterested in and find it very difficult to develop friendships and relate to others. Some autistic children may also find it difficult to understand abstract ideas. Which makes it troublesome to make friends at a younger age.100
Actually, there is no definite treatment for autism. The best we can do is to help the autistic children in making proper social communication being within their limitations. Computer games have recently been proved to be very powerful tools in this regard We do not suggest replacing the traditional therapies by our game therapies; rather we recommend introducing our games besides the traditional therapies for the best output.
Autism refers to a neurobehavioral condition, which includes impairments in social interaction as well as language developmental and skills combined with repetitive behaviors and rigid. The condition has various symptoms and that is the reason why it is called autism spectrum disorder. The disorder covers various spectrum symptoms, levels of impairment and skills. It means that someone with autism tend to isolate him/herself from the rest of the community since they have no way of communicating with the community and that is the reason why they are anti-social. They have difficulty when it comes to passing across information to other people as they lack ability to do so like any other human being. The children suffer from the disorder as a
