The only people responsible for Romeo and Juliet’s death are Romeo and Juliet. That is, because of their impatience and ignorance. (Although I do believe some other characters are at fault, I am only doing Romeo for this essay.) Things would have been so different if they had just waited five minutes. For example, if Romeo had waited for Friar Lawrence to arrive and explain what’s going on, before fighting with Paris and killing himself, he would have seen Juliet alive. This action puts Romeo at fault because he failed to use logic, any other person would have made Friar Lawrence explain why Juliet is “dead”. “These violent delights have violent ends And in their triumph die, like fire and powder, Which as they kiss consume: the sweetest honey Is loathsome in his own deliciousness And in the taste confounds the appetite: Therefore love moderately; long love doth so; Too swift arrives as tardy as too slow.” (Act II, Scene VI) In this quote, Friar warns Romeo to slow down by explaining that going too fast is just as bad as going too slow. The quote is interrupted by Juliet running in and hugging Romeo, which causes Romeo and Friar to forget their conversation and begin the wedding ceremony. Because Romeo never answers or addresses Friar Lawrence’s warning, it is considered ignorance. …show more content…
She also wasn’t raised properly, her mother didn’t care about how she felt, but about her marriage status (same with her father). Because he gave her love no one else had given her, Juliet cared more about Romeo than anyone else. So when Romeo died, she believed she had nothing else to live for and killed herself. Part of the blame goes to Juliet because instead of creating a backup for their risky plan or waiting until the letter reached Romeo to put herself to sleep, she took action quickly which caused Romeo to think she was actually
The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is a book of fate and how everyone in the world affects the happenings of this world. The author of this extraordinary book is William Shakespeare. Although Romeo and Juliet killed themselves, there were many people responsible for their deaths. It is arguable that the parents of the two lovers, Friar Laurence, and Romeo and Juliet themselves were the most responsible, some could say that the other main characters like Mercutio, Benvolio, Tybalt, the Nurse, and Paris were involved as well. There were many people responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet, although they took their own lives, they were not all to blame.
Friar Lawrence plays a big part in causing the death of Romeo and Juliet because he secretly marries them knowing something either negative or positive will happen. Friar even tells Romeo the cautions for he says 'Wisely and slow. They stumble that run fast.' (Act II Scene III 97) Friar marries them because he thinks that the marriage is going to end the feud between the families of Romeo and Juliet. He knows that even though Romeo and Juliet are in love they will never be able to see each other. Not in a grave to lay one in, another out to have” (Act II scene III 85) Also, if Friar Lawrence did not give Juliet the potion that she was going to use to deceive her family into thinking she was dead to get out of her marriage to Paris and make Romeo aware of what was going to happen, their deaths would not have occurred. Romeo goes to the tomb thinking Juliet is really dead after Balthasar accidently informed him of Juliet’s apparent death not knowing of her plan. If he had stayed there longer without taking the poison he had obtained from Apothecary they both would not have killed themselves. He brought the poison to the tomb to end his own life next to Juliet after seeing for himself if she was really dead. Romeo did not want to live without Juliet.
Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own death, they sought after one another and, in the end, paid the price of death for their love, but there were also other characters that played a part in creating this tragedy such as Friar Lawrence, the Nurse, Lord Capulet, and Lady Capulet. All those characters listed could’ve prevented the tragedy from occurring one way or another but instead chose to encourage the relationship. Romeo and Juliet was a tragedy written by playwright William Shakespeare to explore the topics of love, courtship, and marriage. In the play, he did just that by telling the story of the young “star-crossed lovers” Romeo and Juliet, a story well-known and told by many other authors. Some
Recently we have read the renown tragic play of Romeo and Juliet, by William Shakespeare. As we all know, this tragedy ends by the untimely death of Juliet and her Romeo. But after putting down the book, a question comes to mind: who is truly at fault for the death of those two teenagers? Who is truly responsible for turning this story into a tragedy? Or is anyone even guilty at all? After some reflection, I have come to the conclusion that nobody is really at fault, but that everybody did a little something and that all those little somethings added up to create a big something, the death of the two protagonists. Yet, if I had to choose the people who, although unintentionally, contributed to this tragic ending, I believe that Lord Capulet and Benvolio are the most to blame, for their lack of sentiments and betrayals.
The Friar isn't the cause of Romeo and Juliet's death because when Romeo meets with the Friar and asks him to marry him and Juliet, the Friar clearly emphasizes to Romeo saying “For this alliance may so happy prove/ To turn your households’ rancor to pure love” (II.iii.91-92). The Friar is telling Romeo that he is only going to marry him and Juliet in hopes that their families will stop fighting. He never meant to do any harm but help the resolve the feud between the Montagues and Capulets. But that being said, only shows how the Friar caused the couple's death and did not prevent it. Instead of focusing on the true love between Romeo and Juliet, he decided to focus on what was bothering him. And in the quote above it precisely says that the Friar is trying to prove a point; that love can fix the family feud. But how does he know that Romeo and Juliet's love will be pure enough, when he barely even saw the couple together in one area. However, this alone shows how The Friar tried solving a problem and only ended up getting himself into
Violence throughout the city of Verona between two prominent families: The Montagues and The Capulets, ending in the death of the two star crossed lovers. The play “Romeo and Juliet were written by William Shakespeare. During a party hosted by the high up family the Capulets, these kids fell in love. Friar Lawrence wanted these kids to be together, so he had married them, and they have lived happily. They had died for love after their parents said they couldn’t be together. The Capulets has is responsible for the deaths of Romeo and Juliet’s death because they said they will kick her out if she does go to be with Romeo, also Juliet’s cousin Tybalt started a fight with Mercutio.
Some people may say that Romeo was making the most of the situation and was trying to live life at the fullest. This isn’t the truth though, because some of his decisions were very dangerous, and led to the death of not only himself, but others. Also, when he saw Juliet ‘dead’ in the tomb, he decided that the next best decision/choice would to be killing himself. Romeo may have loved her a lot, but killing himself because she was dead was a little extreme. In an outside article done by Stanton Peele, he stated, “Romeo and Juliet is actually Shakespeare's case study of what results when two unformed-maladjusted youths meet at vulnerable points in their
What causes people to believe in fate? Fate is like a powerful force that cannot be controlled by anyone. Romeo and Juliet, the two lovers were victims of fate or destiny. Romeo and Juliet saw each other, and they loved each other immediately after 5 minutes, but their families were enemies because they always fight with each other. Romeo and Juliet were victims of the environmental factors, the authority figures, and by their own mistakes. All of these are blamed for Romeo and Juliet’s deaths.
Romeo should be blamed for his and Juliet’s death because he was impulsive and didn’t think before he acted. This is represented in the play in various forms. For instance, “Can I go forward when my heart is here? Turn back, dull earth, and find thy centre out.” (Rom. 2.1.1-2). This exemplifies that Romeo carelessly and impulsively leapt over the Capulet wall to go meet Juliet at night. He did not think of the dangers his actions could possess, but rather if he would be with Juliet. Another example of Romeo’s thoughtless behavior was when Romeo fought with Tybalt. “Either thou or I, or both, must go with him,” (Rom. 3.1.130). This shows that Romeo was ready to kill Tybalt or die doing it himself just to avenge
There is a large dispute over who is responsible for Juliet’s death in Shakespeare’s famous tragedy, Romeo and Juliet. A large number of people argue it is Juliet’s parents’ fault or that it is Romeo’s fault, but truthfully, there is no one else to blame but Juliet. Juliet is responsible for all her own actions and it is she who decides to terminate her life. A large majority of people believe that she had no other choice but to take her life, although there were numerous different paths Juliet could have done in order to save her life. One way Juliet is responsible for her own tragic fate is how secretive and deceitful she is acting.
Romeo just made careless decisions not thinking of future consequences which eventually lead to his death. If Romeo didn’t make such quick decisions he could have prevented his own death. Romeo set up every conflict in the play because of his actions and emotions. Romeo is to blame for this tragedy, every death in this story has to do with Romeo and his actions often times got other people killed. For example, if Juliet would’ve never came across Romeo once he was dead she would have never killed herself in act V scene 3 lines 119-120 “Here’s to my love!
Romeo and Juliet are responsible for their own deaths, as they both knew their families’ hatred towards each other and decided to go forth with their decisions and actions. At the start of the play, Romeo is desperately “in love” with a nun named Rosaline, willing to do almost anything to see her, depressed from being apart from her. When he sees that her name is on the guest list of Capulet’s party, he jumps at the chance of seeing her again and decides to go. At the party, he sees Juliet, and immediately his heart belongs to Juliet, and he forgets about Rosaline. Romeo approaches Juliet, leading to the two of them dancing and eventually kissing. When Juliet enquires about his name to Nurse, she gets the answer “His name is Romeo, and a Montague, the only son of your great enemy.” In response to this,
An unfortunate chain of events is when luck decides to turn against you all of those unlucky moments seem connected. In the book Romeo and Juliet a feud between the Montagues and Capulets in a city called Verona Romeo and Juliet fall in love but are torn apart because of there family feud which leads to a chain of unfortunate event ultimately leading to their death. But who is responsible for Romeo and Juliets death? To me I think Juliet's parents the Capulets are responsible for their deaths and here's two reasons why.
At first, Friar Lawrence questioned how Romeo could fall in love with a different person right after he was rejected from Rosaline, telling Romeo that men must fall in love through their eyes. Even though he frustrated Romeo, Friar Lawrence agreed to marry Romeo and Juliet together to bring peace between the Capulets and Montagues. For a short moment, Romeo was against almost every statement coming from Friar Lawrence, a wise and holy man. Even though Friar Lawrence had a point, Romeo, acting irrational, deflects the friar’s words and counters them with untrue statements. “‘Thou chid’st me oft for loving Rosaline.’ ‘For doting, not for loving, pupil mine.’” (Shakespeare, Line 81-82). This shows how inexperienced, irrational, and weak Romeo is when it comes to love. His only experienced coming from loving Rosaline who put him in a depressed state after rejecting him. This weakness shows yet again when Romeo was unable to save Mercutio and blames his love for Juliet to be the
