Using Tags to Introduce Source Material
To incorporate the quotation smoothly into the sentence, writers can use what is called an identifying tag, attributive tag or signal phrase. The tag is just the phrase that introduces the quote. It can include the author‟s name and also can include a short mention of his or her credentials.
Examples of tags might include:

According to Jones, the chief resident at Chicago Mercy Hospital,

When you use a tag to introduce a direct quote or paraphrase, you‟ll need two sets of parentheses.

What is a possible solution? Signaling to the reader that the quote is coming. This includes stating who the quote came from and how the reader should interpret it.
T/F: Citation allows your readers to confirm that you are not simply making something up.
When an author uses quoted words they are showing authority, perspective, and other words they are trying to make a point or answer a formerly asked question to help the reader understand. Also when an author uses a word ask yourself why did they use that quote.
When the quotation is long, the text looks like a block of text with indention and without the quotation marks around the quotation.
When you use someone else's words, they must be enclosed in quotation marks followed by an APA in-text short citation (author, year, and page) to your source. The in-text citation must correspond to a full APA citation for the source on the reference page at the end of the essay.
Quotes are written exactly how the original author said it. Quotation marks go on either side of the author’s exact words and credit is given to the author.
Note: Use the full title of the web page if it is short for the parenthetical citation. Articles found on the web, like the example above, are not italicized in the reference entry and are not italicized but enclosed in

Way previously gave to us. In order to practice this for our essay, we are required to write 6 sentences using the techniques we learned. The 6 techniques are, directly name the source and quote it, weave the quote into your sentence, use ellipses and brackets, don’t name source in sentence, but put it in parenthesis, name source later in the sentence, and use a subjective verb to introduce the quote. A subjective verb reflects your judgment of the source and will grab the reader’s attention. This method I find to be most effective when including quotes in
Citations: see the AAA Simplified Citation and Reference Guidelines in the “Assignments: General Information” document for how to cite specific ideas and phrases from the course resources you consult.
A reference or citation consists of elements that allow the reader to trace the original book, article or website you have consulted and cited. Here are some examples in the APA referencing style. Book: Author (Year) Book title
Citations are placed within sentences and paragraphs so that it is clear what information is being quoted or paraphrased and whose information is being cited.
This technique was used only a couple of times throughout the story. It was used mostly when the protagonist was quoting statements made by the humans. For example, when the protagonist is watching the humans battle the clones at war he recalls statements made by the scientists who created the clones before they rebelled. In the first paragraph the use of italics is to give the words added impact by making them stand out, “words such as cancer, disease and infection…”
