An Evaluation of Grease
My film that I choose was Grease because it contains music, dancing and humor. It is a cross between comedy and teen movies. It is a tribute to the Broadway show of the 1950's. It was directed by Randal Klieser and was released on July 7th 1978. The music and dance scenes are what attracted me to Grease. My favorite characters are John Travolta and Jeff Conaway who play Danny and Kenickie. I like these two because they are your typical high school popular boys who are always looking out for each other, looking good and they are always trying to get the beautiful girls but at the same time acting cool like it doesn't bother them. I had high expectations of Grease and I

Secondly genre is the French word meaning type. Genres may be approached by way of various critical avenues. In the Aristotelian strain we recognize genres as kinds within a system of classification. These categories beg further definition, so there is a history of, on the one hand, the refinement of divisions and subdivisions, and on the other a Platonic search for the 'essential' qualities of tragedy, comedy, epic poetry, and so forth. By the recognition of genres we begin to find our way in the universe of verbal artifacts with their feigned discourses, and to train our expectations upon the experience that lies in wait for us. Grease's genre is a hybrid genre because it is a cross between a comedy, a teen movie and romantic.
Lastly representation is the act of representing or the state of being represented. Also it is something that represents an image, an account or statement, an expostulation or a presentation or production. For example the representation of the characters in Grease varies. Sandy is portrayed as a pure and innocent girl but on the other hand Rizzo is portrayed as a bad girl who is always getting into trouble and won't take anything from no one. Also Rizzo is sometimes mean to Sandy
Danny Zuko mainly cared about what people thought about him and his reputation. Though his style is like he’s cruising for a bruisin. What i like about Betty Rizzo is that she doesn’t care of what people think about her, but what I don’t like is that she acts like a spoiled little girl who always wants it her way. I like that Kenickie is a greaser type a guy and what I don’t like is that he sometimes tries to act like Danny. What I like about Frenchy is that she is full of joy, but it’s when she really acts like an airhead that I don’t like. What I like about Leo Balmudo is that he has a nice car, but that he is against the T-Birds. What I mainly like about the story line is that Danny and Sandy fall in love and they try to change themselves to fit into each other’s lifestyles. Plus how the music fit in well with it too. What I don’t like about the story line is that it’s cliche and predictable. The time zone it was based off of is that it was in the 50’s and I like that it was based off the 50’s because it gives out that it could be a classic. Now onto the Conclusion where I’ll be describing who would or would not like this
And after these events, a whole bunch of different things can be said about the Greasers. For example the old church that Johnny and Pony are hiding out in burns down and they go back inside and save some kids that are trapped and probably going to die. A teacher that was at the picnic with the kids that day rode with Pony to the hospital after he had been in the building when it collapsed asked him something about Johnny and Pony. He said, “ Are you two professional heroes or somthin’?”(84). To me, this is funny, and kinda cool , considering they’re just some nothing Greasers around where they’re from. After Pony tells him they are Greasers the man says, “Are you kidding me?”(84). Which I find funny. His reaction is just different because he finds out they’re Greasers and he probably wondered why them, of all people, would risk their lives for some little kids. So in the middle of the book there are mostly good things, except for Johnny’s hospitalization. By the end though, that’s when things take a
A young boy walks out of a theatre alone as a blue mustang approaches him. Or was it, a young boy is writing about a random topic then walks around with his two friends causing trouble? Books and movies do not always line up completely. However, The Outsiders is one example of a book and movie that have same and different aspects. The Outsiders was originally a book written in the 1960’s by a fifteen year old girl, S.E. Hinton and later turned into a movie around the year 1980. The story is placed in the 1960’s about a group of greasers who take things too far with a few socs and learn more about growing up.The movie and book have been reviewed while taking notes about them. A greaser is a social label, referring to as underprivileged, poor, and troublesome, commonly greasers are proud of their hair and know how to look tough. A soc is another social label that is opposite to greaser. Socs are referred to as rich, spoiled, and they look down on greasers. The Outsiders book and movie have similarities and differences
For this research paper I have decided chose the movie Grease, for i believe it holds vast sociological content and themes.
Ben and Jerry’s ice cream and the amazing success the company has experience over the years could be loosely summed up as a story that began with two friends coming together with a vision to create a company that did not adhere to the traditional corporate rules of running a business. They both had certain ideals and a socially and economic responsible opinion on how a capitalist business should be run. There are a lot of similarities in the way this company is run and operated when compared to South West Airlines. They are of course offering two different things to there customers, South West providing a service where Ben and Jerry’s are providing a product but the way that they go about there daily business in the spirit
THE OUTSIDERS by S.E. Hinton The “Outsiders” is a fictional novel. This story is set in 1966 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. The city is dirty, noisy, crowded, and full of danger. The ritzy art museums, concert halls, and theaters traditionally off-limits and the only sources of culture available to the poor boys or "greasers," are the rodeo and the movies and looking out for each other. Many of the greasers dream of the freedom of the country, where people are not labeled and discriminated against because of their appearance.
Overall, I enjoyed the film. My biggest issue was the formatting of the film and the medium that it was available. It would have been more enjoyable had the film not been broken up into segments that needed to load. Had the movie been available on DVD or in one longer segment, it would have been easier to watch. The continuous breaks in the action of
For a movie released in 1978 it still holds true to the drama of high school and the cliche of summer love. Grease became a classic for the same reasons as American Graffiti, it explored the life of teens and culture during the fifties. The film director Randal Kleiser cast a previous academy award nominee, John Travolta and rising Australian star Olivia Newton-John and it now is the epitome of their careers. The musical is a romantic comedy that takes place in the late fifties with a summer fling between greaser Danny Zuko and good girl Sandy. They parted with the conclusion of summer, but when school resumes, they find themselves attending the same high school. It follows Danny and Sandy as well as the perspective friend groups the t-birds and pink ladies. Grease is a musical that is both iconic and forever relatable with it’s lively music, dancing, humor and simple story lines.
Grease is a classic American film that takes place in the 1950s and explores ideas of gender and sexuality. The film was produced in 1978 by Robert Stigwood and Allen Carr and was directed by Rundel Kleiser. The film was not set in the 1970s because it would have to tell a different story; in the 1970s there was birth control and an abundance of sexual liberation, unlike the 1950s. The producers were able to connect the concepts of events from the 1950s into the film. Grease explores the ideas of gender and sexuality through specific gender roles. On one hand, there are characters in the film who are sexually good and are innocent, they are pure. On the other hand, there are characters who are sexually bad and have a tendency to sin,
You can tell Kenny Ortega was trying to liven it up and bring it into the 21st century, but once again it had the cheesy flash of a Disney production. Ortega was focused on capturing the weirdness of the original movie but either forgot, or unsuccessfully acknowledged the campiness that was such a huge part of the originals success. Despite the flashy and athletic performances of the high kicking cast, something was clearly lost in transition. The energy level of the performance was about 4 notches down from what I was expecting and at least 2 from the rest of the
The fifth scene of life, ages 30-40 is illustrated by the movie Grease. Grease is directed by Randal Kleiser and was released on June 16, 1978 (USA). Grease is a classic that most people grew up watching. This is a vital stage in life, in the sense that, this is the stage you discover what is important to you. At this stage in life it is crucial that you evaluate and get rid of anything that might be holding you back.
There is nothing like a good play and a movie to follow. After twenty years, “Grease” is still popular among many. “Chang chang changitty chang shoobop!” If you know the tune, you probably are familiar with the classical play and movie called “Grease”. Grease is a 1978 musical about two teens in the 50s who fall in love over the summer. What neither of them know is that they both attend Rydell High. Sandy hangs with the Pink Ladies, a group of teen girls who wear pink jackets Led by leader Rizzo. Danny is the leader of the T-Birds which is a group of leather jacket wearing bad boys. When they finally clash into each other Danny is not the same Danny from the summer. They try to be what the other
Grease 2 depicts the story of the new exchange student, Michael, who creates a secret identity to impress his crush, Stephanie. In the beginning, Michael is known as the handsome nerd who develops feelings for Stephanie. Stephanie rejects Michael because Michael does not embody Stephanie’s version of the perfect guy, “a cool rider”.1 In order to fit this persona, Michael buys a motorcycle, practices tricks, and becomes a cool rider. Meanwhile at the bowling alley, Stephanie and her ex-boyfriend Johnny argue because Stephanie does not want to get back together with him. Tensions rise when Johnny’s rival gang appears and surprises everyone. Before the fight begins, a mysterious rider shows up, beats the mob, and leaves without revealing his identity.
Genre is a French word meaning ‘type or ‘kind’ (Genre, 2016). The film industry has been around for at least 100 years. The evolution of entertainment is growing rapidly through the use of media. And as these years go on, films have begun to fit into specific genres, and are important to appeal to the different types of audiences.
