1. Describe the type(s) of internship(s) you are seeking this summer.
This summer, I have been seeking clinical research internships. These include any research that is conducted in a hospital setting and correlates to patients. I would be developing my research skills in a laboratory setting while also developing intrapersonal skills working with patients. The research that I have conducted at the University of Richmond has been invaluable; however, I plan on applying to an MD/PhD program and I feel that clinical research would be a more valuable experience for this upcoming summer.
I have applied to a clinical research internship at Stanford University that focuses on training undergraduate students who are perusing a MD/PhD. The

The internship will provide me with a challenging opportunity to develop skills pertaining to clinical research that will further benefit me on my career path.
I have also looked into clinical research at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania through an inquiry form outlining my interests. This has the ability to match me to various laboratories. This was not an official application, but my information has been passed along to faculty mentors at the Hospital.
2. Why do you want to intern this summer?
I believe the summer is the perfect opportunity to jump into something new and challenging in order to develop one’s intellect and character. My ultimate career goal is to become a physician scientist and I feel using the summer to gain clinical skills earlier on will positively impact my career trajectory. During my undergraduate experience, I have not had many opportunities to conduct clinical research, but I am eager to learn new skills immerse myself in learning opportunities. Furthermore, an internship can provide me with unique networking opportunities to learn not only from my internship mentor, but other physician-scientists and interns as well. Currently, I do not have the place to gain such connections but I am eager to form them.
My experience at Richmond has allowed me to hone basic research skills, volunteer in a clinical setting, and
Basically, after my informational interview with John, I really wanted to get some experience in consulting psychology to further observe if this is a field that I can envision myself in. This internship will involve me doing duties such as researching assessment tools and helping the development of assessment package options and the company’s website. I think this type of exposure will help me as I make decisions in regards to my future career goals.
I am applying for the Mayo Clinic Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) because of my intrinsic motivation to serve people through the healthcare field, which developed from a very early age. The motivation developed because I had an opportunity to see the miracles research and medicine could do first hand back in Pakistan, as my father was an ENT surgeon. Research wise, classes like Psychobiology and Molecular and Cellular Biology have consistently increased my interest in neurobiology and immunology, and equipped me with the laboratory training needed to perform productive laboratory research. Also being born in Pakistan, a third world country lacking quality health care and through living in a region of the world torn by socioeconomic issues, I have noticed many around the world lack access to healthcare. I aim to change that throughout my life by partnering with organizations like the United States Navy or the Doctors Without Borders, and the attainment of a MD/Ph.D. degree is an essential part of it.
Not only has this internship provided me with the insight of working in a hospital setting, but it has also given me an understanding that working in a hospital with patients and other health care providers is nothing easy. I learned that no matter how tired a nurse can look from working a twelve-hour shift, they never let their patient’s see them tired while they are attending them. I also learned that regardless of how busy and hectic this unit can get, all the employees always offer to help the patients and their family members, and make sure they are
I believe that an internship in either Human Services or Health Sciences will be an an exceptional way to see firsthand what I have been reading in textbooks and discussing in class for the last year. I have always had a particular interest in the clinical side of psychology, so given the choice I would like to shadow a practicing professional rather than spend time "behind the scenes" or in a lab, which in turn will give me hands on experience with patients and a better understanding of psychological disorders and issues. Through such interactions I hope to fully display my communication, analytical, and problem solving skills and eventually put them to the test. I hope to gain not just the experience of the work life, but also I want to learn
I have chosen to apply to Auburn University because of the various research opportunities, experienced staff in the clinic, and the overwhelming feeling of how important this program is to those who teach.
When it comes to this particular internship, I feel that a limitation I have is that I do not have a lot of experience. My BSW internship was in a hospital and consisted a lot of generalist skills such as locating resources, discharge planning, and assessments. This is my first experience that I
In a similar way, the students at Johns Hopkins University do not simply offer themselves to taxing internships or research due to obligation. Instead, these students desire a richer understanding of the tasks at hand and delve deeper into each subject that interests them. That is exactly the kind of person I was raised to be: self-driven, determined, and curious to research and learn more about anything I can wrap my thoughts around. I first developed interest in Johns Hopkins University because of the opportunities students are given to explore a plethora of topics through the surplus of research opportunities available. Additionally, being an aspiring medical student, I desire to partake in the mentoring opportunities Hopkins offers to further their students’
As a research intern, I learned many new things through working on different projects. One of my favorite research projects was investigating the effects of surgeon mental skills training on laparoscopic surgery performance. On this project, I was exposed to various aspects of the research process.
My research internship was an experience that stimulated my intellectual side. I learned a great deal about research design, procedures, and analysis. Along the way, I encountered several road blocks, but I knew that frustration was not a productive emotion. I sought the help of my mentors and told them the truth: that my data wasn’t making sense and I did not know why. We brainstormed ideas and I researched every night until we discovered that the problem must have had something to do with the low expression of the gene in the particular tissue. At Creighton, I will use my research experience to continue advancing the body of knowledge. Specifically, I would like to participate in the Summer Research Fellowship Program.
The Middle Level Yearlong Residency Internship is aimed to improve the candidate’s teacher preparation and experiences while modifying our current clinical field placement model. The program requires that all interns participate in the yearlong internship, beginning their methodology semester and continuing through the completion of their program.
I aspire to one day become a medical examiner. I have always been interested in both the field of medicine and the criminal justice system and this career is a way I can integrate both. This internship will help me to learn more about this career as well as both fields of interest. I will be a part of the arson bureau where I have the opportunity to work with suspects, witnesses, and victims as well as learn about the criminal investigation process. I will also get to work with the medical examiner and view autopsies.
I have recently finished my summer internship at the University of Maryland School of Medicine under the UM Scholars program. My work was very productive and my poster presentation was very well received.
Prior to applying to the Lewis Katz School of Medicine, I extensively researched the institution and spoke with past alums. From this I learned of the school’s goals of giving back to the community in addition to producing wonderful physicians. The wide range of facilities that your schools uses for internships provides a many unique experiences that arise from working in different communities and types of medical care facilities. I feel that diversity in learning is what makes an individual stronger; the more you see, the more you experience leading to a more well-rounded individual.
Knowing that I really did not want to pursue clinical medicine as I originally planned, my thoughts really wandered to the area of clinical research. I was encouraged by a colleague medical doctor and senior safety manager in the pharmaceutical industry to pursue a career in research as it definitely suited my interests. I was certain that by obtaining some practical experience and working in a research environment to gain first-hand knowledge of what the responsibilities of a researcher entails, I could answer my questions and satisfy my curiosity.
By majoring in public health or a similar field such as psychology or biology, I will acquire an in depth background in life sciences that is necessary for medical school and also a career in neurology, as it will demand me to call on this knowledge in order to diagnose and treat patients. I also plan to take required courses to prepare for medical school, including courses in chemistry, biology, and physics. However, this education will not be nearly as effective if I do not have any hands on experience in the field. For this reason I plan to make the most out of volunteer and internship opportunities made available at UT. I would love to work with hospitals such as St. David’s and Brackenridge. I plan to make use of the Office of Undergraduate Research as well, where I will be able to gain lab and research experience. Volunteering in the environment I aspire to have a career in will get me familiar with how a hospital works and will also help me to apply and understand on a deeper level the information I learn in classes, and research will add experience so that I can enter the workforce with a strong resume as well as a quality education. Additionally, the volunteer and research experiences will prepare me for my actual career so that I will have the best background to successfully treat
