The task-centered approach is an important tool in the implementation process (Gasker, 2019). This evidence-based intervention is a time-limited helping process (Gasker, 2019). If both the social worker and the client are able to plan and carry out tasks in a timely and efficient manner, they will be better positioned to complete their stated short-term and long-term goals (Gasker, 2019). After checking to make sure the client is not in crisis, the social worker should revisit the opening statement by reiterating what the goals and objectives are (Gasker, 2019). Next, the social worker should assess the client’s progress, determining whether tasks have been completed and, if not, what obstacles may have kept the client from doing so (Gasker, 2019). This enables the social worker to identify the strengths and challenges the client is encountering and readjust accordingly (Gasker, 2019). If I have a client that is struggling with outbursts of anger in the workplace, I would lay out specific tasks, such as conflict resolution training, deep breathing exercises, individual therapy sessions, and journaling.
