1. Open a Word document and write a 1-paragraph description of the problem, including its relevance to your major/profession, the range of stakeholders, and the various harms those stakeholders might incur. A discussion amongst many members of the psychology profession is the stigma that surrounds masculinity. What negative effects circulate around the portrayal of masculinity? Additionally, how gender norms affect society’s ideas of what masculinity and femininity are. This directly affects men and women within this community, as well as the many support systems such as therapists and psychologists. Historians find themselves indulging in this conversation, as many gender norms stem from the traditional viewpoints. Further, specific racial or ethnic groups are highly targeted within this discourse, such as those of Black or Hispanic heritage. Another large group is that of the legal community, in which they have high stakes in this ongoing conversation. Politicians and lawmakers find themselves debating the issue of masculinity, where they question whether it has a direct correlation with violence. Many of the stakeholders in this discussion may feel as though embracing masculinity reinforces the idea that men are entitled to women’s bodies. Additionally, masculinity leads to sexual comments or harassment toward women. Masculinity makes men stoic, and gives them an excuse to not show emotion as it is considered weak or feminine. Some may believe that hyper masculinity increases aggression and violence in men. Lastly, individuals argue that men are singled out in reference to masculine qualities. 2. Using the academic databases and research strategies explained in the library instruction videos, begin researching sources to help you learn more about the problem. Add a list of 5-7 potential sources (with complete citations) to your Word document, below the 1-paragraph description of the problem. https://rwulib.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=a9 h&AN=174600196&site=ehost-live https://rwulib.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://search.ebscohost.com/login.aspx?direct=true&db=pd h&AN=2024-20557-001&site=ehost-live http://rwulib.idm.oclc.org/login?url=https://www.proquest.com/scholarly-journals/male-rape-emer gence-social-legal-issue/docview/233601980/se-2?accountid=25133 Everytown Research & Policy (2022).
