As I am Japanese, these two cultures have different approaches to communication, including different levels of context and power distance, which can lead to misunderstandings and conflicts in cross-cultural interactions. 2) Main Point 1; It is extremely significant that how you answer that question is influenced by the culture to which you belong. (a) Culture plays an important role in how we answer questions and how we communicate with others. Our cultural background shapes our perceptions, beliefs, and attitudes, which in turn influence our communication behaviors. Differences in cultural values and norms affect how we interpret and respond to different situations and how we interact with people from different cultural backgrounds. If we do not recognize and respond sensitively to these differences, misunderstandings, conflicts, and communication breakdowns can occur. Therefore, recognizing and understanding the impact of culture on communication is critical to promoting effective and respectful intercultural communication. (b) Communication with family, friends, colleagues, and society at large has contributed to the formation of my sense of self and unique identity. Cultural and social norms and expectations also influence the formation of my identity through my
communication experiences. The Japanese culture in which I grew up places great importance on indirect communication and reading between the lines. Japanese culture also places great importance on indirect communication and reading between the lines, and often uses silence, pauses, and other nonverbal cues to convey feelings and opinions, and requires picking up on these subtle cues.
