Journal Content Consider what you have learned in this lesson, including the lecture, the PowerPoints and the readings. Based on those materials, identify up to three things that you have learned that you might be able to translate into your practice in working with someone with a compulsive- impulsive disorder. Think about specific things that you have learned that you could translate into particular questions, assessments, interventions, or actions that you might do in working with someone. Each of those things can represent a "Commitment-to-Change"; some new learning that translates into something specific that you might do when working with someone. Formulate up to three of these Commitments-to-Change and write them down, and then rate them according to how easy they would be to do, how valuable or useful they might be to do and how committed you would be to actually doing them. 1. Commitment to Change Number 1. I think one thing I would like to do is work with those who may have an eating disorder like bulimia. I would want to understand what they are going through and offer them my support and encouragement. I want to treat that person as an individual and that they are seen as well as heard, because no eating disorder is the same and I would never want to compare them to another. That way we are creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment for them. How easy do you think it would be to do this item? Very Easy 5 4 3  2 1 Very Difficult How Valuable would it be to do this? Very Valuable  5  4 3 2 1 Not Valuable How Committed are you to doing this? Very Committed 5  4 3 2 1 Not Committed 2. Commitment to Change Number 2. I think taking then time to chat with each individual in a one-on-one setting may be best, I can listen to their story again wanting them to feel seen and heard, I might not be helpful with their current issue regarding the disorder but I think it is important on a humane level to get to know the person you are treating. I also think that an assessment like those done for others struggling with depression to see where they may be struggling or lacking in when it comes to their disorder. How easy do you think it would be to do this item? Very Easy 5 4 3 2  1  Very Difficult How Valuable would it be to do this?
Very Valuable  5  4 3 2 1 Not Valuable How Committed are you to doing this? Very Committed 5  4  3 2 1 Not Committed 3. Commitment to Change Number 3. I would like to reason that the relationships with these individuals will strictly be professional, because while emphasizing the importance of listening to others, I would not like to compare their experiences to mine or another’s based on what they have been through. This allows for empathy without personal bias but it shall indicate the desire to help. I want to help other individuals out but I do not want the dynamic of the relationship to change. How easy do you think it would be to do this item? Very Easy 5 4  3 2 1 Very Difficult How Valuable would it be to do this? Very Valuable  5  4 3 2 1 Not Valuable How Committed are you to doing this? Very Committed 5   4 3 2 1 Not Committed As of right now I do not think I could set a possible goal but I do feel it would be best to share and discuss with a colleague and get their opinion and understanding of my choice of work.
