Expert Solution
Step 1: Defining psychological trauma

Survivors of disasters, unexpected incidents like accidents, domestic violence, rape, sexual assault, abuse, combat etc develop post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) or other psychiatric disorders.

Most individuals who are disaster survivors experience normal stress responses. But there are some disaster survivors who experience severe stress symptoms that might result in enduring PTSD, anxiety and other acute psychiatric disorders.

PTSD is a significant psychological response that some individuals experience after an extremely frightening or traumatic incident. It is mostly an acute stress disorder that fades away within 3 months to maximum 2 years. However, in some disaster survivors it becomes a chronic disorder that can last for many years.
