Question

What does it have to say about class, race, gender, sexuality, or other inequalities?

Expert Solution
Step 1

When a society is characterized by the prevalence of unequal opportunities and differential rewards for different groups with varying social positions and statuses, it is known as social inequality.

Step 2

Society is characterized by different social classes based on their possession of wealth, income, social status, etc. Karl Marx has identified that society is characterized by the polarization of classes with the existence of a higher, middle, and lower class. Opportunities are highly differentiated among these classes. The higher classes generally possess the means of production and tend to exploit and impose their beliefs and values on the middle and the lower classes leading to Social class inequality.

Racism has been and still is one of the biggest tools of inequality. People across the world are denied equal rights, equal opportunities; face constant exploitation, ridicule, and even physical violence just because they belong to a race that is not the dominant one. In the USA, racism against African-American people is still one of the greatest concerns of society.

Inequality based on gender is prevailing in every society from time immemorial. Previously it was only women who were facing such inequalities but now men have also become a part of this well. The gendered division of labor is one of the greatest avenues for gender inequality for both men and women.

Sexuality can be defined as the sexual feelings, behaviors, thoughts, and attractions that an individual has for another. In this modern era, people from the LGBTQ are majorly facing sexual inequality owing to their sexual orientation.
