After years of hard work at IE University, your parents believe you are ready to tackle the big challenge of transforming your company. They've heard that a new trend called digital transformation is here to stay; and that those companies that don't address this transformation run the serious risk of falling behind or even disappearing. Fortunately, they are counting on you, and they know that you have acquired the vision and experience to successfully meet this great challenge. The current company Your company is a chain of 10 restaurants operating in the 10 main cities of Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Valencia, Malaga, .....). Your restaurants offer Spanish food with high quality products, but your family would like to incorporate certain changes in order to adapt to the new times and internationalize the business. The company has 150 employees and all the processes involved continue to be done in a traditional way. Even, many of them are still operated manually. The future company One of the most important things you have learned over these years is that technological innovation is a must for companies and your company is no exception. But this does not scare you because in your mind is the formula to undertake this task. You may not have advanced technical knowledge, but you know the elements and components needed to create a 21st century digital business. You are also aware that you can keep and preserve your company’s tradition while leveraging the huge opportunities that the digital context presents. In fact, this approach is at the core of your project. Some of the proposed changes would be: 1.- To open 5 new restaurants in London, Tokyo, Beijing, Paris and New York. Business Driven Information Technologies 03/12/2021 2 2.- You would like to work with local suppliers wherever your restaurant is located (no further than 50 - 60 kms from your restaurant). 3.- To incorporate a takeaway service with innovative dishes in all restaurants and a delivery service for those who want to try your great dishes but can't come to your restaurant. 4.- You also have in mind a star project: the creation of an R & D department that in two years time will be able to launch their first products to sale online. You would like to be able to create innovative products that can reach all corners of the world. Many of them with an ecological and healthy approach. 5.- One of your great passions is teaching people how to cook. Therefore, you are also interested in creating a virtual cooking school. Finally, and as you have learned to be a great entrepreneur, you are always open to listen to any suggestion in the form of new services, new products, changes in the internal and external processes of your company….. So, feel free to add in this document any technological innovation that you think can help your restaurant chain to improve any aspect. The challenge The goal of the document you are going to develop is to design and describe the big picture of the digital strategy you will need to implement: the 5 challenges proposed above, and any other idea or service that using technology you think can add value to your business. To do this, you will have to rely on the elements, components, ideas, technologies.... that we have seen and developed throughout the course.
