Question

Determine the theoretical density for nickel, and compare it to its actual
value. What accounts for the difference?

Expert Solution
Step 1: Density

The density of a material is the mass of a substance held in a given volume. Generally, the theoretically calculated density of a material is not the same as the observed value. The density is theoretically calculated using the following equation.

rho equals fraction numerator N cross times M over denominator a cubed cross times N subscript A end fraction

Where rho is the density, N is the number of particles per unit cell, M is the molar mass of the substance, a is the edge length of the unit cell, and NA is Avogadro's number.

Here we have to determine the theoretical density of the Ni and then we have to compare it to the actual value. Also, we have to explain the reason for this difference.
