Define the Properties of
Expert Solution
Step 1
Organic compounds are the compounds which are mainly composed C and H atoms. The branch of chemistry that deals with preparation, reactions, and properties of organic compounds. The molecular formula of organic compound represents the number of bonded atoms with their atomic symbols. The structural formula represents all the bonded atoms with chemical bonds and the arrangement of atoms in the molecule.
Step 2
On the basis of the carbon atom to which the halogen group is bonded, alkyl halide can be classified as primary, secondary and tertiary alkyl halide.
- Primary alkyl halide = The halogen group must be bonded to primary carbon atom (bonded with one other C atom).
- Secondary alkyl halide = The halogen group must be bonded to secondary carbon atom (bonded with two other C atoms).
- Tertiary alkyl halide = The halogen group must be bonded to tertiary carbon atom (bonded with three other C atoms).
