Expert Solution
Step 1

Hemoglobin and albumin are transport proteins. Hemoglobin has four subunits and each subunit contains a heme prosthetic group. The iron atom in each heme group binds to one oxygen molecule. Hemoglobin contains four heme groups, each of them binds to one oxygen molecule so at times hemoglobin binds to 4 oxygen molecules and do transports them from the lungs to the tissues. Hb has four functions O2 transport, CO2 transport, play an important role as a buffer, and do the transport of nitric oxide (NO). 4 subunits or peptide chains of Hb are joined by a non-covalent bond. Heme is an iron-containing porphyrin derivative. heme has a heterocyclic ring system. porphyrin in heme is known as protoporphyrin IX. It is made up of a 4-pyrrole ring linked by methylene bridges to form a tetrapyrrole ring. Fe atom present in the center of porphyrin ring either in Fe2+or Fe3+oxidation state.
