I
Your voice has touched my spirit most,
’Twas not that splendid music, rich
In clarion-cries from Love’s glad host,
When victory and passion meet
In lives that never knew defeat.
Wherein love’s triumph had no part,
Which like a lone, unanswered sea
Wailed in its woe, until my heart
Heard its own voiceless pain that spoke
And, realising, sobbed and broke.
