The Officers of the Kingdom | |

Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand. |

¶ Over the first course for the first month was Jasho’be-am the son of Zab’di-el: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |
3 |
Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month. |
4 |
And over the course of the second month was Dodai an Aho’hite, and of his course was Mikloth also the ruler: in his course likewise were twenty and four thousand. |
5 |
The third captain of the host for the third month was Benai’ah the son of Jehoi’ada, a chief priest: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |
6 |
This is that Benai’ah, who was mighty among the thirty, and above the thirty: and in his course was Ammiz’abad his son. |

The fourth captain for the fourth month was As’ahel the brother of Jo’ab, and Zebadi’ah his son after him: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

The fifth captain for the fifth month was Shamhuth the Iz’rahite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

The sixth captain for the sixth month was Ira the son of Ikkesh the Teko’ite: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

The seventh captain for the seventh month was Helez the Pel’onite, of the children of E’phra-im: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

The eighth captain for the eighth month was Sib’becai the Hu’shathite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

The ninth captain for the ninth month was Abi-e’zer the Aneto’thite, of the Benjamites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |
13 |
The tenth captain for the tenth month was Ma’harai the Netoph’athite, of the Zarhites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |
14 |
The eleventh captain for the eleventh month was Benai’ah the Pira’thonite, of the children of E’phra-im: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |
15 |
The twelfth captain for the twelfth month was Hel’dai the Netoph’athite, of Oth’ni-el: and in his course were twenty and four thousand. |

¶ Furthermore over the tribes of Israel: the ruler of the Reubenites was Eli-e’zer the son of Zichri: of the Simeonites, Shephati’ah the son of Ma’achah: |

of the Levites, Hashabi’ah the son of Kem’uel: of the Aaronites, Zadok: |

of Judah, Eli’hu, one of the brethren of David: of Is’sachar, Omri the son of Michael: |

of Zeb’ulun, Ishmai’ah the son of Obadi’ah: of Naph’tali, Jer’imoth the son of Az’ri-el: |

of the children of E’phra-im, Hoshe’a the son of Azazi’ah: of the half tribe of Manas’seh, Joel the son of Pedai’ah: |
21 |
of the half tribe of Manas’seh in Gil’e-ad, Iddo the son of Zechari’ah: of Benjamin, Ja-a’si-el the son of Abner: |
22 |
of Dan, Az’areel the son of Jero’ham. These were the princes of the tribes of Israel. |

But David took not the number of them from twenty years old and under: because the LORD had said he would increase Israel like to the stars of the heavens. Gen. 15.5 ; 22.17 ; 26.4 |

¶ And over the king’s treasures was Azma’veth the son of Ad’i-el: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehon’athan the son of Uzzi’ah: |

and over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub: |

and over the vineyards was Shim’e-i the Ra’mathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite: |

and over the olive trees and the sycamore trees that were in the low plains was Ba’al–ha’nan the Ge’derite: and over the cellars of oil was Jo’ash: |

and over the herds that fed in Sharon was Shit’rai the Shar’onite: and over the herds that were in the valleys was Shaphat the son of Ad’lai: |
30 |
over the camels also was Obil the Ish’maelite: and over the asses was Jehdei’ah the Meron’othite: |
31 |
and over the flocks was Jaziz the Ha’gerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s. |

¶ Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counselor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehi’el the son of Hach’moni was with the king’s sons: |
33 |
and Ahith’ophel was the king’s counselor: and Hu’shai the Archite was the king’s companion: |
34 |
and after Ahith’ophel was Jehoi’ada the son of Benai’ah, and Abi’athar: and the general of the king’s army was Jo’ab. |
