Sir John Rhys (1840–1915)

Rhys, Sir John (rēs). A Celtic philologist; born at Abercaero, Cardiganshire, Wales, June 21, 1840; died in 1915. He was professor of Celtic in Oxford after 1877, and was the author of ‘Lectures on Welsh Philology’ (1877); ‘Celtic Britain’ (1882); ‘Studies in the Arthurian Legends’ (1891); ‘The Welsh People’ (1900); ‘Celtic Folk-Lore’ (1901).
