Mary Jane Holmes (1825–1907)

Holmes, Mrs. Mary Jane (Hawes). An American novelist; born at Brookfield, MA, 1825; died on Oct. 6, 1907. A voluminous writer, her works are mostly domestic in character, and moral in tendency. Some of them are said to have had a circulation of over 50,000 copies. Among them are: ‘Tempest and Sunshine’ (1854); ‘Lena Rivers’ (1856); ‘Marian Gray’ (1863); ‘Milbank’ (1871); ‘Queenie Hetherton’ (1883); etc.
