Joseph Hall (1574–1656)

Hall, Joseph. An English bishop and author; born, July 1, 1574; died on Sept. 8, 1656. He is chiefly known for his satires; ‘Virgidemiarium’; ‘First Three Books of Byting Satires’ (1597); and ‘Last Three Books of Toothless Satires’ (1598), in which he claims to be the first English satirist.
