James Augustus St. John (1795–1875)
St. John, James Augustus. An English Orientalist and miscellaneous author; born in Caermarthenshire, Wales, Sept. 24, 1795; died on Sept. 22, 1875. He was an extensive traveler. Among his numerous works are: ‘Egypt and Mohammed Ali’ (1834); ‘Description of Egypt and Nubia’ (1844); ‘Isis: An Egyptian Pilgrimage’ (1853); ‘The Nemesis of Power’ (1854); a treatise on ‘The Education of the People’ (1858).
